NS Asheville District 4/10/14: Coal Train in 8

The previous night, a 744 coal drag had come into Asheville, and the crew was called at such a time that, once helpers attached, they'd run east in perfect light. I relocated to the bridge at Ridgecrest for my first shot and chased them down the mountain to Parker Padgett Road for my second shot.

Firstly, we see 744 fighting upgrade at Ridgecrest in notch 8, powered by NS ES44AC 8023, NS SD60 6631, and NS D9-44CW 9783. Local P34 was doing helper duties with NS D9-44CW 9092, BNSF C44-9W 4844, and brand-new NS SD70ACe 1122.

They local cut off at Old Fort to work, allowing the coal drag to start up by itself to head eastbound, again in notch 8.

Great video! I remember seeing 744(and other coal trains) many times when it used to come down from Bull's Gap, TN on the BL line and join the S-line near White Pine, TN.
