Combat sports have the issue of having only 10% of the broadcast time being actual fight time.. and even with that entire fights can be boring.

Let's be real. Control time is bullshit. If you do no damage and win a fight by decision because you just had good ground control, you need to go be a grappler. Mma is for FIGHTING! Not ground hugging for 15 minutes with no submissions or ground and pound. Ground control in of itself shouldn't earn you any points on the score card. If you wanna win. Do some damage.

That’s the broadcast time but within the fight itself they only break for rounds. Baseball and American football have so little play time within the game. I think American football averages 12 minutes ball in play time in a 60 min game and 3 hour event. I guess that’s one reason why football (soccer) is so popular
