These bunkers/shelters are mandatory in Finland by law, my apartment block has two shelters for the residents, normally used as a storage space. In Helsinki, many underground metro stations also serve as bomb shelters. Before Russia went nuts and invaded Ukraine, you could hear complaints about how expensive these bunkers are to build, you don't hear that anymore.

Underground city is very convinient in the winter. Warm parking place, underground connections between buildings, instead of walking in the snow and cold.

I've lived in Finland for 10 years and I never cease to be impressed with this country a everything about it. Originally being from New Zealand, there's no other country in the world I would rather live in, raise a family in. I love this country!

It's not just the bunkers below the Helsinki but there is also vast tunnel network total length over 200 km (124 miles) which interconnects those bunkers each others. When I was conscripted in Finnish Defence Forces we trained in those tunnels. I checked from the map that the distance between the point we entered to the tunnels and where we surfaced above the ground was something like 15 km (9, 3 miles), though without doubt we marched much longer distance in tunnels because the route was not straight. It was during the winter so there was a place we saw hibernating bats hanging from the walls and ceiling of the tunnel.

I live in Finland, apartment blocks have their own fall out shelters, houses with 6 bedrooms have to have a fall out shelter, hotels have to have fall out shelters, most cities and towns have very large fall out shelters that double up as sports centers.

Finland has experiences from wartime and being under attack from Russia without much help from anywhere (ok, there was, including Sweden, but the magnitude of attack was just what it was). All of it has resulted finnish making sure that the same would not happen ever again. Finland is directly in neighbor of Russia with 1300 kilometers of border with Russia, and we are 5, 5 million people while the Russia has 140 million people, so it certainly means that the preparation for defense war must be in totally different level than in any country further away from Russia. Conscription was never cancelled, basically quite big part of men have 6-12 months of military training, also civil service is possible and also women can join army (although for them it's not mandatory). Still, all the citizen are required to help defending the country if war happened, be it in military or other way. The Nato membership has been on the talks every now and then for decades at least from 1990's if not before, it was considered better stay unallied until 24 Feb 2022 happened. The membership talks for Nato was started just in days between Finland's and USA presidents, after the Putin's aggression war to Ukraine started. Despite any alliances, Finland certainly knows, that during wartime it is better to make sure that there is substantial amount of national preparations made, because in case there would be a big war, you can't always rely that help comes in time, because everyone else can be under attack too just at the same time. Just look at the map Finland's location, and you see it quite fast why it's important to have high level of readiness here. The same goes with Baltic states too, they build up their defense even more determined, their independence started as late as in 1990's, so they certainly have fresh memories how things were when they were part of USSR. Albeit all of this, there has been also good times and good relationships with Russia/USSR, but it was mostly when their leaders were more westernminded people and actually tried hard to get their democracy working. Just go look how fun meetings Clinton and Yeltsin had, it's hilarious, they sure knew good humour!

Yeah Turkey and Hungary fought hard against Finnish and Sweden joining Nato based and imaginary things. They just wanted to buy popularity in the face of big country by doing harm this way and trying to gain some advantages. Both countries are quite corrupt. None of the other Nato countries had any issues and no demands. They kind of work against Nato from inside using their power to gain admissions and so on. Pretty deplorable to do so on the cost of security of other countries. They have other motives and as part of Nato they can do alot of harm to Nato by acting the way they do.

It's good to be prepared because of our over 800-mile border with Russia and the two wars we've had with them in the last 85 years... 😅 You should check out some videos of The Winter War and maybe do some reaction on one of them too

This report doesn't make it clear, but they filmed two separate bunkers in different parts of Helsinki (Hakaniemi and Itäkeskus).

From a Danish perspective, CNN is just as Democratic as Fox is Republican. I can tolerate CNN more, but that's probably just because the Democratic POV aligns more with Denmark's general political viewpoints than the Republican party does. But even so, CNN appears super biased to me.
As a Dane, apart from Danish news (I prefer 'Berlingske' myself), I get my news from BBC, DW, and France 24.

I know CNN get a lot of criticism and with good reason. I like to watch their reports on stories like this and when they talk to regular people in conflict zones.

Sweden is in NATO and we have been neutral for over 200 years but we have had a defense pact with Finland and send weapons there during the Finnish winter war (ww2) but after that Russia has banned them from joining NATO but a few months after the war started and there was little risk that russia would enter finland and also start a war with sweden with the problems they had in ukraine, so then leave both states in the membership application. But the Russians have violated our airspace only once since we became allies and they have also messed around a bit with Estonia and Finland on the border. We in Sweden had many shelters but many of them were sold or demolished in 2000-2015 when the Soviet Union disappeared and so much money was wasted when we were at 5-7% of BMP between 1950 and 1980 and then 1-1.5% of BMP until now that we need to build up a lot

when it comes to CNN, they were bought by someone who supports the Republicans and some other media company that used to always sweeten the Democrats, so now there aren't many sources to get facts from, but check MeidasTouch with their channels as they take up such spirit want to darken
