The small but beautiful Island of the Dodecanese
It is located in the sea area between Rhodes and the coasts of Asia Minor
It is famous for its cosmopolitan air and its luxurious character that make it an internationally popular destination
Symi is the largest island in Dodecanese
It is amphitheatrically built and has 2606 inhabitants
The capital of the island is Chora or Ano Symi which is divided into the cosmopolitan Gialos and the picturesque village (Chorio)
It is known for its points of cultural interest with the most famous Monastery of Panormitis which is an attraction for Greek and foreign visitors.

The whole island has been declared an archaeological and historical site since 1971
The houses of Gialos Symi s were built by Carpathian craftsmen and the upper part of Gialos 500 years old is of exceptional architectural importance as it is an interesting mixture of Aegean and fortress architecture with Venetian elements
The influence of European (Roman) and Athenian Neoclassicisme was so great on the cosmopolitan Symians that they did not calculate the cost
They brought marbles from Penteli of Athens
Theraic land for the stonework from Santorini porcelain for the plasters from Nisyros
Wood was procured from Trieste for the windows and ceilings
Tiles from Marseille
Stone and lime abound in Symy
