I lived in an apartment in Arlington, VA right next to the pentagon for a while. My complex had a clicker to get into the gate, but it was motion activated to get out of the gate. Not sure why you need to use a clicker to leave. In any case, I would've spent the $25 if I had a child that was prone to needing medical attention...

The mother was irresponsible when she chose not to purchase a clicker after her child had a seizure and she came to realize that paramedics did not have egress outside the locked gates.

I also agree with the mother's point of view that like the fire department, paramedics should also have egress without having to depend on a tenant for a clicker. The two are not mutually exclusive.

They should have access to a code. A box with a code should be located somewhere inside each unit in the building for energencies such as this one.

That first Plaintiff worries me to the fact that she's got kids cuz either she don't really give a crap and just trying to get some money from the apartment owners. Or she's just too cheap to spend $25 to make sure of her children's safety. What a horrible mother.

Regarding the clicker incident, the plaintiff should have gone immediately to her local fire department. I'm sure the owner is in violation of fire safety codes . Since when is it on a tenant, and not the landlord, to implement normal safety measures ? Extremely unfair decision.
