Dec. 1 is World Aids Day and the B.C. Centre for Excellence in HIV and Aids says this year marks the virtual end of the domestic epidemic of HIV in British Columbia. It’s a long way from the days when an HIV diagnosis was almost always a death sentence. That was the case for well-known Vancouver artist Joe Average, who was diagnosed with HIV when he was just 27 years old. Radio-Canada's Monia Blanchet caught up with the artist – now in his 60s – to talk about the epidemic and why he stopped painting.
