The ONE thing I really like about the ZOOM F3 #shorts

One attribute of the Zoom F3 that I primarily like is the startup time. Even though I have several audio recording devices, none of them are faster than this one.

Do you actually use this set up where you run two microphones directly connected to the F3? If you do, why or in other words in what scenario?

So much better than the horribly slow start up time on the Zoom F2

How are you liking the Sennheiser 8040’s on the F3? I’m loving its super compact setup.

Yeah, really want to grab one of these one day soon. Sadly they've been out of stock in Europe for many weeks, with waiting times in December and some not until early next year !

Hey great content. Thanks for sharing. Do you happen to know if I can mount Rode NT 5’s like this? Directly, without any cables?

It’s certainly is fast, even with the Bluetooth adapter connected (you need to press enter when prompted to ignore it) it’s still well under 5 seconds to recording. Fastest field recorder I’ve ever had 👍

Are those mics connected to the F3? If so, which ones are they. I’ve been looking for a compact setup

Many years ago, Zoom enabled many recordists, indie and documentary filmmakers to affordably capture sound with their versatile H4n. It had it small flaws, but it was a great iteration of the H4. I love the H1 and H1n, I am a long time R16 and F8 mki user, all those products are great, even the F2-BT.

BUT. The quality has somehow gone down recently. I noticed when I purchased the PodTrak P4 - 44.1/16 only, plasticy thing with flimsy controls. Some products do not even make much sense, the H6 (which I have also used) had questionable design choices, the XAH8 is obviously a device from the Alien franchise and now the M2/3/4?

The M4 does not make any sense to me, the shape, the xlr placement, the shiny plastic body, poor isolation etc.

The M3 seems like a neat thing, but looks very bulky (why the 2xAA box?) and there is no alternative input, so you are stuck with this particular M/S mic, but that might be fine for some users.

The M2 seems like the most obvious choice - a H1N successor with 32bit float. Also, it is “hand-microphone” shaped, so in theory should be possible to put it in vocal mic holders. But the omission of 1/4” thred for secure mounting option and again - the poor handling noise and RF isolation does not make it very competitive.

32bit is nice, but just like with photo/video - it is easier to modulate/expose properly while recording, than tryin to rely on the technical abilities to fix stuff in post. I get it that one can safely record sudden dynamic changes, but how often is this the case and where does such demand meet the need for something like M-series instead of an F3 with a good mic/pair?

For a radio documentary / journalist / filmmaker, it would be much better to equip a H4n Pro or H5 with 32 bit float recording, timecode and USB-C ports. Done. Perfect body/form factor people are used to, with enhanced recording possibilities.

Why make a 32bit electric shaving razor? How does the M4 fit into any setup? Is there a field bag for it? Does it sit well atop a camera? Are we supposed to put it into a pocket while having the two xLR cables sticking out from the opposite sides? How am I supposed to look at the display, does it stay firmly on a table when laid down? So many questions.

What are you using in the XLR ports? Are those lavalier mics? What kind?

Hi, congrats for the great content, I watch you every week!
Does it perform well for stereo recording with the mics directly attached? I was thinking of doing exactly this 🤩
