here's the entire FNAF lore.. Ok, so in 1967, William Afton and Henry Emily opened Fredbear's Family Diner, a small family-friendly restaurant featuring a brown bear mascot named Fredbear. Due to financial constraints, Henry often wore the Fredbear suit himself, as they couldn't afford to hire a performer. William was studying engineering, while Henry studied business administration and communication. During this time, William met a woman who later became his wife. Their meeting was unusual—William was on trial for allegedly murdering a child who had been found crying outside the diner, scared of Fredbear. The woman worked as a hot-dog vendor outside the establishment and encountered William in court. Due to a lack of evidence, William was acquitted. Three years after their marriage, they had their first son, Michael.

For the first four years, the diner struggled to achieve success. It wasn't until young Michael remarked that Fredbear was boring that William realized a change was needed. Inspired, he designed a new character: a yellow rabbit named Bonnie. The chemistry between Fredbear and Bonnie captivated audiences, transforming the diner into a massive success. With the influx of money, William expanded his engineering pursuits, creating the first two Spring Lock suits: Fredbear and Bonnie. Their success continued to grow.

The diner's immense popularity caught the attention of a company that sought to franchise the concept. Henry and William decided to sell the diner, expecting substantial profits. However, legal loopholes allowed the company to seize full control, erasing Henry’s and William’s association with the brand. Fazbear Entertainment was formed to oversee the new franchise. Furious, William severed all ties with the company, while Henry, unsure of what else to do, sought employment with them, becoming the infamous Phone Guy. Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza (FFP) opened in 1973 with four animatronics: Freddy Fazbear (a recolor of Bonnie), Chica, and Foxy the Pirate.

When William learned of these new animatronics, his resentment deepened—how dare they create four new ones without him? Fueled by a desire for revenge, he devised a plan to destroy FFP from within. In 1976, William’s family expanded with the birth of twins: a blonde-haired girl and a brunette boy. He frequently reminded Michael to look after them, ominously stating, “Daddy won’t be around forever.” In his free time, William laid the groundwork for Afton Robotics, a company dedicated to animatronic development. At the same time, he assumed a false identity—Dave Miller—and took a job as a security guard at FFP.

His habit of wearing the purple security uniform and lurking in the shadows earned him the nickname “The Purple Guy” among children. In 1980, disguised in the Spring Bonnie suit, he executed his first major crime—he lured five children into a secluded room, killed them, and stuffed their bodies inside the animatronics. The fifth child’s remains were hidden in a spare Freddy suit, which he later painted yellow.

Surveillance footage implicated Henry, who had a habit of wearing the suits, and he was wrongly arrested. He was eventually released after being deemed mentally unfit, but the scandal led to FFP's closure. William, meanwhile, was fired.

With funds obtained through black-market organ sales, William opened Afton Robotics and began working on a new business: Circus Baby’s Pizza World. However, his growing obsession with murder led him to modify the animatronics, equipping them with mechanisms designed for child abduction. In 1982, this backfired—his daughter, fascinated by Baby, was killed when the animatronic activated unexpectedly.

Wracked with guilt, William irrationally blamed Michael, saying he should have protected his sister. This incident led to the restaurant’s cancellation and his wife leaving him, taking their remaining children. Now alone, William's descent into madness deepened.

Unbeknownst to the world, the murdered children’s spirits had possessed the animatronics. Led by the Puppet—inhabited by the first victim—the spirits sought vengeance, attacking any adult they encountered at night. Meanwhile, William continued his experiments.

After his wife left, she and the children lived near Fredbear’s Family Diner, which was still operational. William, unwilling to let go, purchased a nearby warehouse where he built a secret underground monitoring room. He installed cameras in their home, the diner, and the street. He also resumed his role as Dave Miller to keep an eye on his sons.

Michael, now a rebellious teenager, tormented his younger brother, who was already traumatized from witnessing his sister’s death. The boy found solace in his "Psychic Friend Fredbear" plush, unaware that it was outfitted with a camera, allowing William to spy on him. However, the spirit of his sister also communicated through it, attempting to protect him.

Then came the fateful birthday party. As a cruel joke, Michael and his friends forced his brother’s head into Fredbear’s jaws. The Spring Locks failed, and the child’s skull was crushed. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. His spirit lingered, trapped in the shadows of the suit that ended his life.

This event pushed William further over the edge. His wife, devastated, took her own life, leaving Michael in William’s care. Seething with rage, William devised a twisted punishment. He designed an underground simulation of Michael’s bedroom and built nightmarish animatronics to torment him in his sleep, drugging him and moving him there each night. This traumatized Michael, but ultimately made him a better person.

In 1987, another Freddy’s location opened with a new set of animatronics. William, once again disguised as Dave, returned to kill five more children. The restaurant temporarily shut down but reopened in November. However, after an animatronic known as Mangle bit a customer—The Bite of ‘87—the place closed again. Henry, now jobless, faded into obscurity.

Forced into hiding, William began to regret his past. He realized his family had been destroyed, leaving only himself and Michael. If he had ruined everything, perhaps Michael could fix it. He sent his son a letter detailing what needed to be done. Knowing his daughter’s spirit was in Circus Baby’s Entertainment & Rental, Michael infiltrated the facility.

Baby initially mistook Michael for William but recognized her brother. She and the other animatronics—now merged into a being called Ennard—devised a plan to escape, using Michael as a disguise. They lured him to the Scooping Room, where his organs were removed and replaced with their collective form. However, Baby, seeking to protect her brother, had learned of an ancient ritual preventing true death.

For a time, Ennard controlled Michael’s body, living as a human. But decomposition set in, forcing them to abandon him. Miraculously, Michael survived, though his body remained undead. Now realizing his father’s sins, he set out to free the trapped souls.

Michael took a job at a reopened Freddy’s location in the 1990s under the alias Mike Schmidt. He confirmed the animatronics were haunted but was fired for tampering with them and his "foul odor"—his rotting flesh.

He waited for the restaurant to close. Guided by Shadow Freddy—the spirit of his younger brother—Michael dismantled the animatronics, freeing the children’s souls. However, his decayed appearance made them mistake him for their killer. Seeking refuge, Michael donned the old Spring Bonnie suit, but the faulty mechanism activated, crushing him. The children, believing their tormentor had perished, moved on.

Michael remained, a lifeless corpse in a decayed suit.

Years later, Fazbear’s Fright attempted to cash in on the urban legends surrounding the pizzeria. The attraction burned down. Michael, hoping to end his suffering, set the fire himself. But the flames did not free him. Now, he had one final mission—to find and stop his father, the true source of all the suffering.
