FULL STORY:

So, it was my (F17) birthday yesterday, and I got a message from my mother saying that she couldn't afford to get me a birthday present (for the third year in a row, mind you). Now, obviously, I understood that yesterday. I mean, things happen, live and let die, right? Only to find out this morning that she gave my little sister at least £20 for her birthday, a mere 13 days ago today. You'd think she had money set aside for her eldest too, but apparently not. Now, I've always hated when she got me gifts via my dad, because it never meant much to me then. Hell, I'd even take an old book of hers she didn't read anymore; I'm genuinely not picky over presents. So that means that she's played favourites again, and it was the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

A bit of context here, I do not live with my parents, I live with my grandparents. Also, my parents love chocolate cake. As do I. And the way I see things, if you want to play favourites on my birthday for the 14th year in a row, then it's my turn. I got a really nice chocolate cake from my grandparents yesterday, and I always go see my parents the day after my birthday, mostly because I can't stand my mother most of the time, and she would try make the day about her no doubt. Now, when I go see my parents after my birthday, I always bring them a slice of cake each. Same size, so they can't argue.

Here's where I may be petty here. Because this year, I'm only giving my dad a slice of cake. He got me a new cosplay that I've been wanting for a few months now, but he spent a similar amount on my little sister for her birthday, because he doesn't have favourites. If my mother wants to play favourites with her kids, then I'm showing her just what it feels like to be left out. Hope your lack of cake spells out my disappointment in you

My mum just sulked the whole night, and my dad ate his cake with a shit eating grin

Whenever I even try hinting doing something similar to my mom, she always guilt trips me. She tells me that she does everything for me and that I'm an ungrateful brat. She also starts shit talking my dad, who did literally nothing.

I'm a middle child and apparently my birthday falls within a timeframe where my parents "just don't have money to spare." I've believed that excuse for years only to realize they always have money for takeout, buffets and restaurants. And hey, my other siblings birthday they tend to remember while mine get forgotten all the time. Just recently my mom offered to take my younger brother out to eat for his birthday. It's very interesting! 😂 this year i was thinking i might forget to give her a mother's day gift 😌

No one got me anything
Bought myself a birthday cake

Last year I couldn’t get time off work so I spent most of the day there
Came home to an empty house
Ordered some food and ate it on my lonesome

Year before that all I got was a small glass jewellery box

I love that idea. OMG 😲. If one of your parents plays favorites, you play favorites and favor your other parent over the favoritist.

My dad once tild me i was born at a difficult time to remember. Its new years eve. A literal day everyone celebrates. Also 4 days after his wedding anniversary which he never forgot.

My mom is weird, she's extremely kind to strangers and loves being accommodating and motherly to relatives who don't even care about us....she's meanest to me the most then my dad but kinda dotes on my sister but not all the didn't even celebrate my birthday but donated money in my name not even to orphanage or homeless, but to some church guys who praised her the entire evening and scolded me very severely for going to my friend's house to celebrate and not staying back not once has she asked what my favorite food is, so i decided i will marry a guy who'll ask me this question to cook for me 😊.

I.. How can i say it... My parents don't play favorites.. If im correct im their favorite. Somehow... Because they kinda lost faith in my brother for how much hurt and pain and problems they got them in but never totally gave up on him... Since childhood he was alway in trouble and went two time in jail once because of fake friends and once because of him.. (Not going into details).. He's everyone's favorite and love him... He have that charm... And all... I.. Im the quiet and weird kid that's live in her world... He's 7 years older.. He thinks like a child even though he's in his middle my life my parents suffered to deal with his problems... I understand.. But it's affected me somehow.. A lot of stuff i didn't have because of him alot of events ruined because of him... I grow up loving and hating him at the same time conflicted about my feelings for him... I respected him but been also jealous... I envy him but pity him at the same time.... I... I don't know what to feel anymore.. He's my brother and i love him but i don't know if im even able to forgive his actions..

My parents died at 6 yrs old and my foster parents forgot I had a birthday (I don’t mind, my birthday is the anniversary my parents died, too). But I know they only adopted me cause they want me to make them money. Jokes on them I’m cutting contact once I graduate college.
