I love a good tiki drink, I think Donn Beach made some of the best. What are your favorites?

Donn the beachcomber was a legend. I was at Trader Vics not too long ago and Vic bergernon actually mentions Donn by name in the menu. He was actually very respectful of his rival and gave him a lot of credit for creating and pioneering the genre

The foaming from pineapple is the bromelain breaking down proteins.
Add it to your after workout shake (helps process protein quicker) and it's really good for tenderising cheap steak.

My food science degree finally doing something xD

(Additional fact: Pure pineapple can denature human skin from the pH3-4 AND the bromelain. So don't eat too much raw or you can get mouth ulcers <3)

I love how nearly everything in donn's life can be chalked up to " *shrugs* maybe it happened"

I'd highly recommend everyone interested in tiki read Potions Of The Caribbean by Jeff Berry. The recipes in the drink are cool and all but its more of a history book and I couldn't put it down and read the whole thing in a day

Can you make "The Balm of Fierabras" as made by Don Quixote (boiled oil, wine, salt, and rosemary) that causes him and Sancho Panzo to become extremely ill and try and make it good. I can see it being a challenge

That little tangent about ships was great tbh I'm glad it was kept :D

You were the main reason I got into making tiki drinks/the wonderful world of rum. So exciting to see a 32 minute episode on tiki.

On another note, more longer episodes! I use your videos like podcast when I cook or clean so it’s always fun to have longer ones.

I found your Dole Whip video a few months back, which inspired me to do a Tiki birthday party with the few friends in my social circle. I made a menu with 18 drinks - all recipes from your videos - and we had an absolute blast giving them all a try over the course of the weekend! I was extremely pleased to find that the flavors leaned so much more on herbal notes than I initially thought they would, and I don't think there was a single one I didn't enjoy. Funnily enough, our top rated drink of the weekend, which happened to be the last one we made, was the Dole Whip! And now I have three more to try! Thank you for all the research you do, and for all of the work you put into making such high quality videos!

Last night, I made a gin and tonic on top of muddling (4 cape gooseberries, leaves from 1 mint sprig, and 1 lime wedge) in the shaker first, and it was *amazing*. I used chilled Tanqueray and Fever Tree Light Tonic. The drink had a beautiful clear pale yellow color from the gooseberries and it was just a playground of flavors.

I really appreciate you clarifying about peach brandy. I've been feeling guilty for no reason about using apricot liqueur for tiki recipes that say "apricot brandy".

Seeing your reaction to the Missionaries Downfall might have been one of my favorite HTD moments in my two years of being a viewer. For a drink to bring that out it must be truly wonderful, so you’ve sold me on making it!

I'm one of those that watches the show but doesn't really drink, and I gotta say that I made a couple versions of the missionary's downfall with fruit instead of booze and Greg's right, the drink's amazing. I'm probably not tasting what he's tasting, but it's definitely a cousin drink, and the texture, the freshness, the minty and grassy flavor, this is one of my favorite things to make.

...so there I was, standing at my home bar, enjoying a history lesson, eight or so minutes into the video, enjoying the biography of Donn Beach, and I realized I hadn't poured a drink yet! So, deciding this was going to be a history episode, I rewound the video a few minutes to listen again as I mixed a cocktail. And almost as soon as I finished, the mattress promo ended, and you started making a drink!

Greg, this is my long-winded way of saying that if you're going to make a drink, please do so early in the video so that I can follow along without jumping around and missing your history lesson(that I thoroughly enjoyed). Let's shake a drink up in the first few minutes, and then sip on it as we listen to you tell us about your chosen topic.

That last one sounds incredibly delicious without needing anything too hard to get your hands on...and the "stick to the bottom shelf" sidenote made me chuckle.
