Porsche has unveiled a substantial update for the 2025 911, featuring the introduction of a hybrid system for the GTS trim. While the arrival of a battery-powered 911 is intriguing, the real excitement revolves around what is coming next for the 992 platform: the new GT2 RS.

Much like the 991-generation 911 before it, the 992 is anticipated to get a high-performance turbocharged GT2 trim in the latter part of its lifecycle, potentially as soon as next year. This anticipation is supported by the sighting of a test mule at the Nurburgring, providing a clear indication of what is to come.

Recently, the CarSpyMedia YouTube channel captured footage of this 911 driving on and around the Nurburgring in Germany. At first glance, it appears to be the current GT3 RS, a model known for its naturally aspirated engine. The test vehicle even had large decals on each side that read "GT3 RS." However, the exhaust sound tells a different story.

The characteristic high-pitch wail of the 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine has been replaced by a deeper, more guttural exhaust note. This distinct difference suggests that this car is not the current GT3 RS, but rather sounds more akin to the previous generation GT2 RS.

It is not unusual to see Porsche testing the upcoming GT2 RS in the GT3 RS’s body. The previous generation GT2 RS also made extensive use of the GT3's body and aerodynamic kit, with minor adjustments to the front and rear fascias.

The last generation GT2 RS was the pinnacle of the 991-generation 911 lineup. In 2017, it set the record for the fastest rear-drive production car at the Nurburgring, thanks to its exceptional aerodynamics and a 700-horsepower twin-turbo flat-six engine. It further solidified its legacy by setting an overall record in 2021 with an upgrade kit from Manthey Performance. Given the advancements in aerodynamics and suspension in the 992 generation, the new GT2 RS is poised to be even more impressive.

The new 992.2 911 GT2 RS will probably be the new benchmark for track focused sportscars and supercars for a few years to come. Maybe something like the SF90 XX can get close on a race track.

After 992.2 gt3, we know the na will be end in 2026, so this will be gt3rs with turbos.
No hybrid, because of weight, and may have manual in gt3.

The only problem with the 992 GT2RS is the AMG One. I don’t think they’ll be able to beat that Nürburgring time

It looks like they gave the GT3 a new front facia for 2025 and gave the old one to the GT2, that's an awful front end! Please don't use this, it's ugly!
