With their “free” services Google, Microsoft and Facebook make us an offer that is hard to decline. In return, the tech giants harvest data about our behavior and preferences, which they resell with a considerable profit margin to the highest bidders. This is what the American researcher Shoshana Zuboff calls surveillance capitalism – a phenomenon that changes society and individual freedoms as we speak.

See her in conversation with Mareile Kaufmann at Oslo’s House of Literature on Thursday, the 22nd of October at 19.00 CEST.

Shoshana Zuboff is Professor emerita in Philosophy and Social Psychology at Harvard Business School. Since the 1980s she has been a pioneer in the field of technology, capitalism and social psychology.

Mareile Kaufmann is a post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Criminology and Sociology of Law, UiO and a prize-winning voice in digital criminology.

The event is hosted by Spartacus forlag and Department of Criminology and Sociology of Law, UiO with the support of Ytringsfrihetskommisjonen and Screen Cultures, UiO.
