SkyTrain for Surrey: Our Vision for SkyTrain

A SkyTrain extension to Langley down Fraser Highway would take 18 minutes to travel to Surrey City Centre, almost twice as fast as an LRT and with no transfers to downtown Vancouver. It would cost the same to build, less to operate, and offer a better business case overall. We're advocating for SkyTrain over LRT because it's clear that a SkyTrain extension combined with Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) will generate more transportation benefits, more economic benefits, higher ridership and get more people out of their cars.

I don't live in Metro Vancouver but I'd say the skytrain is the way to go.

This is so much better than I thought it would be. I thought it would only extend to 196 street along Fraser Hwy but it actually goes into the downtown core. SkyTrain to Langley has been a dream of mine for as long as it was first thought of. If I didn't have a car it would make sense to take the SkyTrain instead of a bus for important things like appointments. This would help me when I'm older and not able to drive.

#SkyTrain and similar grade-separated automated systems (including the 1983 Lille Metro VAL and 1981 Kobe Port Liner AGT) always rocks the best! #LRT can never beat the safety standards or even the reliability of #SkyTrain or an equivalent grade-separated automated system!

Almost three years ago. Now in Nov 2018, we have a mayor who has just removed LRT from the negotiation table and we're finally getting the possibility of the vision pictured here. Good work, Daryl. Thanks for sticking it out even when we had the darkest of times with Linda Hepner.

They should increase choices of transportation in Surrey by having the Patullo Bridge replaced or extending the skytrain line down to Langley or altogether. I agree that Sky train transit is better because accidents on roads can occur which can block Light rail transit.

SkyTrain to Langley was already planned decades ago thats why King George has that bit at the end which is perfectly shaped to allow an extension to be added on easily. Im pretty sure the right of way was more or less set aside too.

Calgarys Ctrain is ground level LRT and people have been killed by it. The only few SkyTrain fatailties on the other hand have been people jumping on purpose

Honestly, instead of making the lrt, they should just make another B-Line from:
Surrey Central - Langley Centre
With that much money in the budget, they can even make more buses so that bus frequencies are better. Anyways i just hope that the govermment makes the right decision!

These are false statements Lrt is 87million per km . skytrain is 108 million per kilometre
