Financial crisis within CECAFA threatens oldest tournament

As Cosafa competitions run on regular scheduling, other regions are struggling to hold theirs such as The East and Central Africa competition, CECAFA. In December last year, the body announced it's Senior Challenge and Kagame Cups would not be held as hosts withdrew. The Senior Challenge Cup is the continent's oldest tournament and if the financial struggles facing the body continue, it could be no more. Somalia football is the worst affected by the cancellation of CECAFA tournaments. The country's teams often use the tournament as an opportunity for it's players to experience football beyond that of the domestic league.
