This week I fell in love with a first edition of Alice in Wonderland and a matching copy of Through The Looking Glass. Buying both would empty my bank account, but I was determined to try anyway.

Man, I feel your pain... I thought you'd got it!! I bid on a painting recently which went for a comparatively cheap £1200 (the estimate was £1500 - £2000) and this was by far the most I've ever spent at an auction. When I was the highest bidder at £1200 the auctioneer kept saying 'any other bidders?' - 'come on, this is a lovely painting'. I mean he literally went on for about 5 minutes trying to encourage someone to outbid me. The wife was shouting at the screen 'PUT THE HAMMER DOWN!!'. Very exciting, but couldn't go through that too often :)
