Ludwig van Beethoven: Romance for Violin and Orchestra No. 2, Op. 50 [Piano arr. by Winkler]
Показать описание
A piano arrangement of this heavenly piece of music by Winkler has been brought to my attention. Apparently there are no score videos of it, so here is my contribution to YouTube. This piece was composed in 1798 but interestingly it was not published until 1805. The accompaniment is for flute and a pair each of oboes, bassoons and horns, with strings.
All of this is condensed in the left hand in this arrangement. Because the orchestration is not too big, I think that this arrangement successfully captures the spirit of the original. Of course some things have to be considered while performing this on a piano, the right hand has to sound like the solo voice, we need to play contrasts between solo and tutti style sections, some rubato passages should be there, similar to as a violinist plays this every so sleight rubato at crucial points because of the way a violin works, and so on. The written tempo is Adagio Cantabile, which shows that the violin mimicks the voice of a singer here. When I played this, being concentrated on hitting the right notes and playing the right phrasings, I suddenly had this moment of great humility and goosebumps. It was the moment when I realized again on what other level the music of Beethoven is. This is so great music that I honestly find it hard to describe what I feel when I hear this. It's just so sublime...
I hope you like this video, it was a lot of work!
