Run Windows Programs on Linux with Bottles. I'll be using Ubuntu 22.04 LTS to show you how to install Bottles. Run Windows Apps on Linux based systems, and most Linux Distros. Bottle uses Wine a translation layer (POSIX) to natively run windows APPS on Linux.

You can also run the exe by left-clicking on the executable and selecting the option to "open with..." in nautilus or dolphin and select bottles, it will ask in which bottle you want to run this executable and just select and be happy.

I can install Pokemon and Notepad++ fine. But the programs that are actually keeping me on Windows can't seem to be installed. What to do when the installer never starts up (Affinity) or if it stops 70% of the way (Clip Studio Paint)?

Great video. That opens doors to switching to Linux.
.
One question though, ...
.
What about drivers?
Audio software uses hardware/interfaces to run audio
and you need the drivers. I don't think my daw software has any Linux drivers.
So can you install windows drivers on BOTTLES that talk to the windows
software that you also run on bottles?
.
thumbs up + subscribed.

Incredible tutorial. Everyone makes it all so complicated, but you broke thru the BS and told us exactly what we need to know. Because I'm planning on leaving Windows before Oct 2025. I am not gonna pay per year to keep using WIndows. I'd rather just virtualize it and move to Linux. Already, my WIndows machine breaks too often, every few updates, it does. And, Linux has less bull, so I really see the light now. I get why people tire of Microsoft now.

I have a 4k screen and the windows apps look tiny on it, is there a setting where I can scale them to 200%?

I don't see any of my regular chromebook folders inside of bottles? Example I download an exe file to my chromebook but when I click add shortcut on bottles to find that file, none of my files or download folders are connected to bottles for me to run that exe. Any suggestions?

I've tried so many windows programs using bottles and I've only had one actually work, they say they are installed but when you launch them it does nothing

What assurances do I have that the package maintainers for bottles is in stealing my personal data?

Maybe it's that I have grown familiar with the terminal, but using wine directly is waaay easier in my opinion. It's just a bit of a hassle to get desktop shortcuts for apps at first but not too bad once you get it.

super intro - thanks
just curious: once set up - do you need to start bottles before using windows software? I guess yes - but this wasn't tackled in the video

Wish I could get my VPN app to work. Bottles doesn't seem to want to make it work.

I was unable to see my folders and files, to solve it I opened bottles, went to the top right menu, chose preferences and all my folders were there! Then preferences and tried to add a shortcut and I was able to see all my folders and files. I hope it helps you.
