Fan theory, Ilvermorny is underground, underneeth "Ilvermorny Tower" (AKAThe Crown of Mt. Greylock). In fact, the whole mountain is the school building. It's been designed so it appears to just be a mountain. Muggles (or no mages if you insist) were oblviated so everyone thought the mountain was there the whole time.

The Berkshires is a wonderful place for city people who come from big cities and want a weekend escape in the countryside. It isn’t a nice place to live in, because there is literally nothing to do here. Sure you can go to mass moca, and the clark, but you’re not gonna do that everyday if you lived here. I have been living here my entire life (14 years), and I can’t wait till I graduate high school, and get to leave.
