This arrived in a branded side opening box with everything fitted into bespoke moulded cardboard, the shaver being inside the travel case and the quick clean pod under this section with everything being well packed and protected. The user manual is a visual diagram guide which is easy enough to follow and also has a QR code which takes you to the product support which allows you to find a more detailed manual by searching the product code, I don’t see this as a negative as the accompanying manual in my opinion is perfectly adequate and it allows for online troubleshooting along with any post release additional information to be added.

First impressions: the shaver was a lot lighter than I had expected and certainly a lot lighter than the foil razor I use, it operates with a single button which can also be used to lock the shaver avoiding accidental operation during travel. The finishing all seems very good and high quality, the heads release easily with a single button/release catch making cleaning the residue from the heads very simple. The quick clean pod is not powered and operates by utilising the motor of the shaver, its simple enough to set up and fit the cleaning fluid.

After the shaver was fully charged I gave it a try out, the first thing I noticed was that it was a lot smoother to use than a foil razor or any other rotary razors I have used and glides nicely across the skin, I have been using the razor a while now and find I get a better shaving result using the razor as a wet shave, the quick clean pod does a good efficient job of cleaning the heads and being quite light it takes longer to get the arm ache you sometimes get with a long shave.

The results it gives are reasonable but I found it certainly didn’t give as close a shave as a razor blade and also found it did not give as closer shave as my foil razor although this is harder work, I know I am very picky when it comes to shaving and like an absolutely smooth finish without the slightest feel of stubble, I am not sure any electric razor can deliver this so would compare it to my foil razor, it’s a lot less harsh on the skin than a foil razor, far easier to manipulate and get into tight areas precisely, it is lightweight making it less of a strain to use.

Overall a nice razor and in my opinion very good for a daily shave and versatile being able to use it wet and dry or even in the shower, the quick clean pod works really well, it glides nicely across the skin and it is easy to clean, I didn’t find it gave as close a shave as a razor blade or my foil razor but it does give a close perfectly acceptable shave and is far more versatile.

I bought the Philips 5000 over a year ago, and have been using the Quick Cleaning Pod with a water solution of liquid soap, works perfectly and saves on the bother and cost of ordering the preparatory refills

To get the closest shave from an electric shave I find it best first to wash my face using bar soap, not liquid soap, but bar soap. It seems to give a close shave...

Just used mine for the first time. Took me a week to open it, I wasn't ready to shave my head bald. Well I just did it and I can say this machine works really well. Didn't take my too long to cut it down either, machine was easy to use and manipulate to get high spots. I like it because its now razor short. Running my hand over my head I can still feel the hair. Glad I finally bit the bullet. And these Philips machines are made to last a long time, so we'll see how that goes.
