In this installment of Essential Classical Music, I cover the best recordings of Mahler's Symphony No. 7. This video is taken from my larger video covering more of the major symphonies and their best recordings. Featured conductors include Klemperer, Abbado, and Horenstein.

I have Barenboim / Chicago Symphony Orch – DG Eloquence. As I think the coda the best part I'm now intrigued by Klemperer.

My favorites: Tennstedt, Haitink, Bernstein.

100% for Otto & Hermann! But, for exactitude there’s Haitink, Bernstein and Rattle! But, Klemperer unlocks the Mahlerian soul!

I hate that Klemperer recording; so slow, dull and uninvolved. If I could only keep one recording of the 7th (my favorite Mahler symphony, too) it would be Michael Tilson Thomas with the London Symphony on RCA. Great playing, great sound and superbly conducted.

I don’t believe in the concept of best recordings. But I listen most to Gielen, Bernstein New York and Petrenko.
