I always loved Deep Purple, but this is one of the very few (if not the only) times I prefer the cover to their original, Richie's bluesy voice just suits this song so well. Richie was always better singer than Jon Bon Jovi (though I'm a Bon Jovi fan), but not many people know this fact. His first solo album Stranger In This Town is a masterpiece, he even got Eric Clapton to play a solo in a title track. That's probably one of the reasons I fell in love with Tommy Johansson's music, he reminds me of Richie at some aspects. Hope you'll be getting some sleep soon, insomnia is a nasty thing

This cover is fantastically sung BUT, because the vocal is sung so powerfully the “blind man” sounds too empowered and strong. That is why Gillian’s version is so much better, his rendition sounds like a blind man calling out, weak vulnerable on his last legs. The same goes for Deep Purples arrangement, it serves the song and therefore more sad and plaintive.
