Citadelum is an upcoming city-builder and strategy game set in the early days of ancient Rome, well before it became an empire. Developed by Abylight Barcelona and set for release on October 17, 2024, the game mixes historical city management with mythological elements, blending Roman history and fantasy.

The core gameplay revolves around building and expanding your city, managing resources like wood, stone, food, and water, and protecting your settlement from external threats such as barbarian hordes. You’ll be able to develop armies consisting of legionnaires, archers, and other military units, using them to conquer new territories and establish trade routes. Battles in Citadelum use an auto-battler system where you can control troop formations before the action unfolds.

One unique aspect of the game is the interaction with the Roman gods. You can build temples and make offerings to gain their favor, but they are fickle beings—neglecting or angering one god might lead to divine retribution, where they directly impact your city in dramatic ways. This adds a layer of strategy, as you’ll need to carefully navigate their demands while growing your city.

Visually, Citadelum features detailed animations, allowing you to zoom into your city and see the inner workings of buildings, from workshops to temples. It strikes a balance between a playful, mythical tone and the more serious aspects of city management and strategic combat.
