Speech therapist here. She is right.
The biggest fear I get from parents is they feel that if they learn how to use the device, they will stop trying to verbally express themselves.
This is a myth... and studies show that it may PROMOTE and motivate kiddos to be more verbal. Not all individuals will be verbal. Some will verbally speak, some may mix (use verbalizations AND a device and gestures) or not be verbal and ONLY use signs/gestures/device.
