WSU @ New Mexico Preview- Cougs to add 13th game? Mateer offered $1M NIL from another school?

#18 ranked WSU will be heading to New Mexico this weekend looking to move to 9-1 against the Lobos and #2 rushing QB in the country Devon Dampier. The Lobos have one of the better rushing attacks in the game but lack on defense, which the Cougs will look to exploit.

Other news this week is a loophole that would allow WSU to add a 13th game to their schedule, and rumors spreading that John Mateer has already been offered a $1M NIL deal from another university.... how long will John stay?

I'm Glad you Guys are also Covering The Cougs Basketball 🏀 Team. I've attended over 100 Games & literally flew to San Diego to watch Dick Bennett's Cougs take Down The Aztecs in 2005 ❗

As a student who stayed the whole USU game, I could understand why a lot of people left. It was late, it was a blowout, it was raining, and it was Utah State. I stayed the whole game and was disappointed that people left, but it's hard to ask people to stay for the 4th quarter given those circumstances. What was really disappointing was the lack of alums that showed up at all. That crowd was of smallest all season, even worse than Portland State.

Basketball crowds were pretty good. Calmese is the player I'm most excited to watch. The high levels of fouling may become cause of concern though in higher stake games. Same with the slow starts.

I’m gonna keep banging this drum because it doesn’t seem to sink in, but Pullman is too damn expensive to visit for alums. The hotels are insanely priced (understandable because they use big weekends to subsidize operating through the rest of the year when there’s no demand), driving conditions are tricky this time of year, couple that with late kickoffs and no one can feasibly make a day trip out of it.

Students, you’re gonna be sick of being back at your parents’ house and seeing your high school friends by the time 11/30 rolls around. Get back to Pullman early, and support your team one last time.

I would Pitch the 13th Game to these Teams:

1) Pittsburgh
2) Louisville
3) Missouri
4) Tulane
5) South Carolina

If these East Coast Teams push back on Travel, then Pitch the Game being held in Puerto Rico's biggest Stadium: (Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium) Which has had Teams in the North American Soccer ⚽ League, play their Home Games.

I totally see what you guys are saying on style points, but man the WSU community would be pretty damn pissed if a starter gets hurt while up 28 late in the 4th against an awful team. Personally, the threat of an injury on a non-deep team is much more important than potentially style points that the committee may or may not actually care about. Plus, reps for the backups is great for the future

Unfortunately, any games that take place the week of the Army-Navy game dont count towards the CFP Rankings, & I dont think most would take too kindly to any other programs scheduling on that day. The only true option would be Championship Saturday but itd be virtually impossible (read: 100% absolutely impossible) to get a game scheduled in Hawaii against another team this late. No one would agree to that travel, what TV Partner is gonna broadcast it, etc. Even if all those hurdles didnt exist, I still dont think its even worth it nor would the NCAA approve it. The point of the rule is to allow teams who had to play at Hawaii to get an extra game, not just an extra game for fun

The real calamity would be if Potter and Chuba decide to go somewhere else. Potter looks like he could throw for 400 a game.
Does Mateer trade a few hundred thousand for uncertainties, a possibly uncomfortable situation and the removal of the title - COUG. Just saying you entered the draft as a Coug has to be worth a few hundred grand that will be repaid in the pro career.

If I’m Wazzu athletics I’m banging down the door of SEL, Taco Bell (the CEO is an alum), and Northern Quest asking for as much as I can. If Northern Quest is only paying $250k for Mateer’s NIL that’s weak. Northern Quest should easily be doing $500k to $750k if they don’t want to do a million. Also ask Paul Allen’s wife for money or any other extremely rich alums.

It’s really tough seeing Wazzu being a stepping stone for other schools.

Brock and Salk always talking about poor WSU and can they keep their players yada yada yada. but in today's landscape, nobody can keep their players. Bama and OSU can't even. Until it is fixed this sh!show will continue.

A few good men was at Guantanamo (Cuba). Guam is in the western Pacific along the Marianas Trench--far closer to Kapan than the USA. My Dad was stationed there during Vietnam.
