This comparison guide will help you to figure out which bike will better suit your needs. Electric bikes and gas bikes have their own unique strengths and weaknesses, but the question is "what strengths do you care about, and what weaknesses don't matter to you?"

Everything you need to make your own Motorized Bicycle.

The engine has a longer range than an electric bike, and when you run out of gas, you fill it back up in a matter of minutes, in order to recharge the bike depending on kit, it can take 30mins- to hours

the thing is, the battery will be dead or will have low charge hold in 2 to 4years if you use it or not...
and they are quite pricy, an gasoline engine in the other hand will be still here in 10years...
and you forgot the price of those charges.

I have an electric bike, they're good for people who dont want to do any maintenance. Charge and go. I just didnt like that the max speed would slowly get less and less as you ride more. After a 30 minute ride you can already start to feel less torque and max speed. Gas is better for consistent power throughout your ride

Could i make a hybrid-electric bike, with a gas motor AND a conversion wheel?

You should include the cost of charging the electric bike. Each state has loophole for the 80 cc. Being pedal assist is one example.

The main advantage of a gas engine is that if something happens like the piston and cylinder breaks you can replace them two parts, with an electric motor you have to replace the entire motor. Then you also have to factor in the amount of electricity you have to replace in the battery because unless you somehow can get your electricity in your home for free you have to factor in the cost of that. Carbs last pretty well and shouldn’t break on you unless of back fire, the whole electric motor and battery can short circuit itself if a break in the plastic shell for the components occurs and it is raining, most gas bikes run a magneto loop that can be replaced for around $10 if something goes wrong. Honestly all forms have trade offs that can ruin the motor itself.

I personally love the gasbike I personally own a GT6 pro racing engine and I absolutely love it. Ive rode dirtbikes my whole life and have a love for the rumble of an engine

In Washington State we can go up to a 49 cc gas engine and still ride the streets, PROVIDED we register it as a moped and get a plate for it. I'd been looking at a emotor for quite a while, but they really have practical distance problems (battery weight, recharge time). A gallon of gas that I can get anywhere, vs a 20 - 55 lb battery that will take 8 - 12 hrs to recharge.

3:32 You'll never have to worry about a chain popping off is only for hub motors. If you have a mid drive motor, you have that to worry about that. On all my bikes motor or not, I keep spare tubes into compartments that I attach to my bike and on the mid drive bikes, spare chains that I sized in advanced for that bike as well.

For me it's the e bike, being a older guy i have gotten sick and tired of working on things, ( engines, carbs, gas, grease, dirt, filth lol ) you get the point, i now like clean and easy, great video 👍🏆.

About the cost of electricity, the battery of an e-bike like this doesn't exceed .5Kwh. The cost of electricity in the USA is about 10cents/KWh, so that gives us about 5cents per full charge, thus 20 charges per dollar, meaning 500 miles per dollar!!! Not to mention charging is available in public places for free.

Get a hybrid soluton 👍 the electric engine can be used on small trips or in citys, the gas engine for long distance or backup if battery dies

if you live in the country side you're gonna want a gas engine.

if you live in a city, especially apartment you're gonna want an electric motor, they are less powerful and slower but they are not messy and smelly

I like how you ignore that charging an e-bike requires electricity, which is not free.

here's a simple comparison...

gas: (preferably 4-stroke, but not limited to), cost, good quality bike kits can range from $200-$400 for the complete setup of an 80cc engine
ebike: kits can range greatly from $200-$500 for setups between 250W-1, 000W, but these kits almost never include the battery which can cost $300-$400+ by themselves

gas: power - a person of less than 150lbs can usually ride a 40cc motor at 15mph+ easily, over I recommend 80cc motor, which can carry a 250lbs person at 20mph+ easily, but can get speeds over 30+mph
ebike: power, a person over 150lbs can use a 350W for pedal assist, but not recommended for unassisted, otherwise, 150lbs+ should get at least 750W-1, 000w, speeds are still limited

gas: range - average distance can be 30-40+ miles per tank and you can fill up in less than 60 seconds and gas stations are everywhere
ebike: range - average distance can be 20-30 miles between charge, and charges can take 2.5-4.0+ hours (if you can find a place that will let you charge up)

gas: longevity - a properly maintained motor can last 6, 000-10, 000+ miles,
ebike: longevity - most batteries can be charged up to around 800 times average, around 18, 000-20, 000 miles, but the motors themselves rarely last more than 5, 000-8, 000 miles,

simple and cheap breakdown maintenance on a 2 or 4 stroke motor is usually less than $75-$100, extending its life for another 5, 000-7, 000 miles
ebike motors usually start at $200+, and the batteries at $300+,

gas @ 20, 000 miles $200+ for maintenance/repair or $400+ for replace
ebike @ 20, 000 miles $800 (replaced 3-4 times) & $300+ for battery = $1, 100

cost and the maker of this video purposefully left some info out, seems a little bias

In Canada you can have up to 50cc without registration or anything fancy like That, but you can get away will higher if you take off the plate where it says "<50CC"

Watching this in 2022 when you talk about the gas prices man i bet everyone misses those days.

The one question I had wasn't answered. If the electric bike ran out of charge, would it be as easy to pedal as the gas powered bike? Is there noticable drag from the hub and it is noticeably heavier with the batteries? This is why I chose the gassy. The whole point to me was a power source but still having a pedal powered bike without needing assist.

What would be better for offroad biking? Are there any bikes that go a long distance? Seems like the batteries only last a couple hours...

looks like electric for me. Iowa law now considers any gasoline engine powered bicycle a moped, which you need to title, register, and insure. which is impossible to do without a vin number and Manufacturer Certificate of Origin.
