Ahead of the Ryzen 9000 series launch, Italian tech reviewer SaddyTech has obtained an early sample of the upcoming Ryzen 9 9900X processor. In a comprehensive gaming review, the 9900X was found to trail behind the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, AMD's current flagship gaming CPU.
The Ryzen 9 9900X is a 12-core, 24-thread processor that is expected to hit the market at around €500 to €550. It features a boost clock of up to 5.6 GHz and a 120W TDP. The reviewer used a high- end setup, including a GeForce RTX 4090, an X670 motherboard, and DDR5-7200 memory, to ensure there were no other bottlenecks.
Ryzen 9 9900X vs Ryzen 7 7800X 3D Gaming Performance
In the gaming benchmarks conducted by SaddyTech, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D consistently outperformed the Ryzen 9 9900X across a variety of game titles and resolutions.
At 1080p, the 7800X3D was 94% faster on average compared to the 9900X. In games like Counter-Strike 2, the 7800X3D delivered a 3% higher frame rate.
Moving to 1440p, the 7800X3D maintained its lead, outperforming the 9900X by 97% on average. The margin was particularly pronounced in titles like Cyberpunk 2077, where the 7800X3D was 39% faster.
Even at 4K resolution, the 7800X3D proved to be the superior choice, with a 6% advantage over the 9900X on average. In games like The Last of Us Part 1, the 7800X3D was 81% faster.
