This is like me and my inlaws, except we all are native English speakers....

Man, that was my first three years of communicating with my boyfriend's family. Nowadays, I am able to speak Spanish with them but we still ocationally yell at the bathroom from which he translates some random words.

My friend and I ( both American, U.S.) went shopping in a shop in Tokyo. I studied Japanese before arriving so I was survival fluent; my friend tho, not at all. However, because she is of Asian descent, the shopkeeper assumed she either was or knew Japanese. The shopkeeper made a beeline to my friend ( I guess I looked too Murican) and started throwing her questions., Friend looked at me, I translated for my friend, my friend answered in English, I replied to the shopkeeper in Japanese, but the shopkeeper kept directing the questions at my flustered friend.

This one is 100% autobiographical! 😆😅🙈 But I once hade a two minute conversation with her mum about bananas in Vietnamese! 😅🤷🏼‍♂️

He's thinking bad of himself because he can't talk to them. They're thinking bad of themselves because they want to talk to him. But we still can communicate. It will help both of them learn :)

I love watching your videos, as I can relate to them massively, although I am in the role of the "German boyfriend", haha. I am a Scandinavian woman whilst my boyfriend of five years is Vietnamese. There are so many things in your videos that we have experienced as well, like culture clashes, differences in food preferences, the difficulty of communicating with his parents etc. We are planning to go to Vietnam for the first time together this summer. It's gonna be a big change for sure, but I will use his guidance and your videos as reference in preparing myself for the trip. 😄

Uyen, this level of awkwardness still occurs during family reunions where everyone speaks the same language. 😅
