Mr. Darcy from 'Pride and Prejudice' may have been universally loved but one person who has a bone to pick with the role is Mr. Darcy himself Matthew Macfadyen. The Emmy-winning actor looked back at the 2005 film he starred in opposite Keira Knightley during an interview with CBS Mornings and admitted that he "didn’t really enjoy" his role. Macfadyen added that he didn't feel like he was the right choice for the role of Mr. Darcy.

I thought the entire cast was perfect for their roles..the chemistry between Darsy and Elizabeth was off the CHARTS..and that is what i believe made the movie so successful...the only actor that i would have replaced was the part of charles Bingley ( Simon woods). It felt like the interaction between Jane and him felt awkward.

Honestly, I love both Matthew and Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy….they were both excellent.

One always have to keep in mind that a movie doesn't actually have to follow a book original slavishly. One also need to bear in mind that this is a movie with a running time of two hours and the BBC series is six episodes long and has a total running time of just over five hours... Of course, then there is richer content in the series, but still missing very much from Jane Austin's original.
I don't think you really can... and certainly don't need to compare or choose... neither one adaptation nor the other... or one Mr. Darcy or the other. The gentlemen's interpretations are skillfully done, and just that... artistic interpretations...
Then, as an introverted person, maybe I feel a little extra for Macfadyen's Darcy. However, that doesn't mean I don't also appreciate Firth's performance. I love them both❤️❤️

I love that when the movie came out, everybody (older than me) was like CoLiN fIrTh iS tHe ONLY DaRcY. Dont get me wrong - Firth is an excellent actor and a perfect Darcy, but in 2005 i was a teenager and this movie was the first adaptation I've seen - for me Macfayden is Darcy and now almost 20 YEARS LATER im not the only one thinking it😤
