I paid $1100 for my first 1976 KZ900 soon after my 18th birthday in December of '85. It had already been molested with plenty of chrome and paint but that's exactly what I wanted back then. I saved up another $1000 the following year to punch it up to 1075 with Andrews cams and 28mm smooth bores. I thought I was the cat's ass in my town until the cam chain snapped which ventilated 2 of the pistons. I bought my 1st house before turning 21 and moved the broken KZ out of my parents backyard into my garage. It just sat in pieces alongside 3 more newer bikes over the next several years. A friend was trying to piece back his own KZ and I sold it as a parts bike for $50. Seeing these pristine examples on display just chews me up inside knowing what I gave away.
