How do we know that the 1st law of thermodynamics is actually true?  I mean, do we really have a means of falsifying it?  Or actually proving it?   It obtains for isolated systems, sure -- but that's about it.  To make a metaphysical statement out of that strikes me as a bit premature, a bit silly.
