Excellent recommendations! A lot of these I have already read, but I found a few new ones to put on my wishlist.

This is such an amazing video Katie! I could use another few months of Victober to read more Victorian literature that I want to get to! The Hand of Ethelberta sounds intriguing, not to mention the other books on here that I've been meaning to read like Olive, The Half Sisters, The Odd Women. And I want to get to some of the more highly rated ones too. Also, I keep mixing up Trollope's He Knew He Was Right with The Way We Live Now. They are not the same book, and I've only read one of them lol.

Great video, as always.
Maybe the big difference in ratings in goodreads is caused for the fact that there are a lot of victorian novels that are not translated in other languages, so there can only be rated by those who can read in English and have available the original English versions.
For example: it’s impossible to find “Olive” or “Lorna Doone” here in Spain, because they were translated into spanish more than 30 years ago, and that books are no more available. Nowadays there are only 4 Anthony Trollope’s novels translated into Spanish, and “Dombey and Son” is not translated either (which I can’t understand the reason why, because Dickens is indeed a very popular author in Spain).
And I suppose that happens the same in other languages, so the community of goodreads that can’t read in English can’t read, and therefore rate, some of those novels.
(Sorry for my awful English: I can understand it very well, -in fact I am suscribed to your channel-, but I am totally nerd when I have to write it).
I’m a big fan of your channel and of your beautiful accent too 😍😍😍

Excellent video! This structure is enjoyable and useful!👏🏻👏🏻
This Victober I wanted to read Olive but I’ll have no time at the end. Rigth now I’m reading Doctor Thorne and October is near to its end. But I’m decided to read it this year.👍
So happy to have read some of the underrated books you‘ve mentioned: the ones by Hardy, Dickens, H.G. Wells and Gissing.
And i’ve noted down half a dozen to be read 👌

What a great idea for a video, Katie! Olive and Ruth are already in my TBR. I definitely have to pick up your Gaskel and Hardy. recommendations. Congratulations on soon to be 11K subs!

I picked up He Knew He Was Right after you recommended it! It’s not quite what I expected and there’s quite a bit of disturbing and sad stuff in there, but I am enjoying it. It’s a bit slow at the start but it’s really picked up now. Will definitely read more by Trollope in the future.

I'm so glad I participated in Victor this year...have found some books I really love & have revisited some. Your enthusiasm has gotten me interested in so many more.

Nice shoes, Katie! Gorgeous! Super interesting choices of books that I've never read except for Gothic tales – and makes me want to attempt them immediately...except for the odious Barry Lyndon!

Love love love the recommendations. I think a lot us who read Victorian novels haven't explored past the mainstream ones we've read early on or watched adaptations of; whether its gaskell, dickens, etc. You're eloquent way of describing each one is also a plus. 😊

I think I need to take off like...a year....and just dedicate it to reading your recommendations. I find it interesting that even though you dislike Dracula you love Carmilla and yet find the two similar. I haven't heard of at least a few of these, and I'm adding them to the TBR. Excellent Victober hosting as always.

I can't wait to read The Half-Sisters! I already have it because Jen Campbell actually recommended it to me when I wrote her in a comment that I love Villette :D (I love North and South too so now I'm even more excited haha)
