Durham and Jarrow were seats of learning when Oxford was a field and Cambridge was a swamp.

Do I have this correct, Platonists know of a chair through its essence, ignoring sensory input, but when he is released from his cave he 'sees' a chair (via sensory input) and now fully understand the actual chair and it's essence? I'm confused, or was Platowho was?

Durham University was founded in the early 19th Century - at least 600 years after Cambridge (though there was a "Durham College" in Oxford during the middle ages). It is even debatable if Durham is England's 3rd oldest university - some claim it was UCL, which was founded around about the same time.
