256 folds would be overwhelmingly longer than the diameter of the universe, like actually incomprehensibly large

You're assuming that it's folded in half. But origami is all about folding. He could have been folded into a super complex piece of origami.

Didnt believe this and so I did the math. A piece of paper is about 0.004 inches thick. If you fold it 42 times, thats 0.004 x 2^42. That equals 17, 592, 186, 044 inches or 277, 654 miles... About 40, 000 miles than to the moon.

Honestly absolutely flabbergasted at this.

Its a reference to super paper mario actually. to chapter 3-3 where Dimentio brings the player to Dimension D where everyone's power in enhanced by 256 times

That toad, if folded 256 times, would be far from comprehensible in terms of length to humans. The observable universe is light years across.

This toad reaches a length of MILES.*

This toad is LIGHT YEARS IN LENGTH.*

THIS TOAD IS TIMES BIGGER THAN THE OBSERVABLE UNIVERSE.*

Someone grab the original Japanese text. I suspect it's actually folding 8 times into 256 layers.

Actually he only got folded 1 time in the opposite direction but it's an unsigned integer

Homie losing all reading comprehension the moment he saw "42"

Yes, he would be beyond the observable universe, the same google search says 94 is the Observable Universe

Aside from the physics aspect of folding paper, I enjoy that this seems to be a binary numbers reference.

256 is the maximum value stored in a byte of data, or an 8 bit binary number.

Folding over is a doubling

2^10 is ~1000 (1024)
For every additional 10, you basically add an extra 3 digits
2^6 = 64 - we'll round that to 100 in a second
2^256 ~ (2^10)^25*2^6 = (10^3)^25*10 = 10^76
Observable universe is 10^26 meters. Even if we were to measure in millimeters, that would be 10^29

So yes, bigger than the observable universe

on the other hand, you can do a dragon fold, meaning that for every time you fold, the number of folds increases by 2^(x-1)

so the toad is actually bragging about being folded 9 times, as 256=2^8=2^(9-1)

Well i think i figured out how it could be logical. What if he meant total folds not seperate folds (same for marios count by the way). So instead of increasing by one eacht time it doubled which would mean 8 seperate folds (which also happens to bethe max humanly possible). It also matches up withthe amount of times you hit that roof (and the amount of times you would jump with mario in the beginning which would be 3).

This is only if you fold it in half, the toad didn’t specify that it was in halves

Im pretty sure that when Toad says he was folded 256 times, it means that he was folded in half 8 times for a result of his piece of paper being folded into 256 pieces. For a piece of paper that small though, 8 times is a great deal more than expected, and that piece of dialogue could've been said way better

It is impossible to fold a paper in half more than 7 times.

That’s only if you fold it in half each time

Someone did the math, if accurate, Larger than known universe by = 10 x 10 to the 44 power.

It’s proven that folding a single piece of paper more than 7 times is borderline impossible so I think his distance into the universe is the least of our problems when accounting for destructive physics 😂

6.6 quattordecillion times longer than the width of the observable universe

malachi

That only applies if all folds are in half. It doesn't say that.
