Sew Two Squares to Make a Fun Star Basket!

Hello Shiny Crafty People and welcome back to the channel!

Today I’m making what I can only describe as a star box or basket out of two squares of fabric.

The secret is turning one square 45 degrees and sewing point to midpoint to create the 3D shape.

I also used Pellon Fuse-N-Shape to give the bottom square major stiffness to create a bowl that isn’t going anywhere! This thing is solid.

It may seem like I love Amazon, but it’s really the only place that I have seen that carries all this stuff and is accessible to everyone. If you can find these items at your local store, buy local.

I hope you enjoy this project and, until next time, Stay Crafty!! Bye for now.

Thank you for sharing a fascinating shaped little bag with us all.
Maths and geometry are so magical ✨️
Maybe sewing over the ends of the zip first and then opening it a little would perhaps make getting the edges to fit a little easier, as you would have a bit more play in the top fabric.
A great bag for all the small sewing templates that tend to wander off when we are not looking or for crochet hooks and or knitting neddle tips that like to roll under the sofa at the most inopportune moment.
😢😂 when my son is on holiday for 2 weeks and I need to knit a baby blanket, right now!

What a great little bag for all kinds of things, (especially hiding treats 😉). I think that clipping in a scant 1/4" at the midpoints would make it easier to turn when sewing where the corners and midpoints meet.

I make pincushions using this shape called Biscornu. A "biscornu" (pronounced "bee-skor-noo") is a French term, meaning "quirky" or "irregular, " referring to a small, octagonal pincushion or needlework project made by stitching two embroidered squares together, creating a unique, eight-pointed shape.

For inside corners, stay stitch one thread width away from the stitching line in the seam allowance, for about 1” before and after the corner. Clip into the corner. Then pin the pieces together and sew. This helps in general, but also when bias binding is added to the cut edges.

Did you hear me yelling at you that you needed to turn the top piece over? 😆 Cool project, but I don't know if I have the patience to try it. As always thank you for sharing your talents with us!

Cool little bag. As I was watching you struggle with the last corner it occurred to me that maybe if you opened the zipper about half way it might release enough tension on the blue fabric? I dunno. Armchair quarterback here.

How would this interfacing work to make a crossbody bag?
Too thick?

I just laughed when you stopped to flip the blue piece😂. It is very different. I wonder if it would work using something like an ultrahold heat n bond.❤❤

I love your tutorials! What kind of iron is that and do you recommend it? Thanks!

Sewing the too long zipper to the too big fabric, then cutting the square might work out better.

Is there a PDF for this? Sorry if it’s a dumb question

Hi Tim - This is unrelated to this video, but I'm wondering if you ever plan to update your profile thumbnail pic. You've done the public a great service during Covid by teaching us how to make all kinds of face masks, but now seeing you with the face mask in the pic just reminds me of that awful period of time. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer! On a more upbeat note, I enjoy your crafty videos very much!! Thanks!
