Sir Wilfrid Laurier was too English for the French, and too French for the English. But if you like new provinces, tin pot navies and secret babies, he might be perfect for you.

Video #7 in our Prime Ministers of Canada series.

Can we get any more of this splendid series starting with Arthur Meighen?

Emelie Barthe was Laurier's business partner Joseph Lavergne's wife. My great great grandfather Olivier Beauchesne worked for Laurier's law firm 'Laurier, Lavergne & Coté' when all this stuff went down in Arthabaskaville (Victoriaville), Quebec back in the 1880's.

Laurier's accent it this video is funny but in reality, because he grew up in New Glasgow, QC, he spoke English with a Scottish accent. He could pass as a British with a French surname like an Anglo-norman or a Huguenot descendant and that explain a lot of his successes.

Laurie was the greatest Prime Minister of Canada. He laid the bedrock of Canada being a place we all could come and a quilt a tapestry in peacekeeping were not pacifist, and we’re not aggressor we believe in the rule of law and the understanding of our neighbours when they believe in us, we believe in them.

John A. Maconald certainly did not order Riel to be executed! Macdonald refused to commute the death sentence, which is a very different big distinction.
