Combined iron and magnet trick. By attaching the same pole, the magnetism very weakened. The color is painted regardless of the pole. Don't be fooled by the colors.

Polymagnets could probably do this! This would explain the close proximity of the NS magnet to the equator magnet! 'Maxels' of alternating NS surface dots that terminate within small distances! These can be programmed into specific patterns that generate a nearly infinite number of properties!

Pole manipulation has already been extensively experimented with, to the point where there are hundreds of poles on the same magnetic body. This isnt some new revelation or even a new mechanic.
