Saw Plini twice in 2023. I've never seen any artist more than once in a calendar year. Loved it. It was euphoric. Emotional. And I've never been among so many other people like myself of a mind about this. Kinetic stage presence? Maybe not. But compelling storytelling and improvisation? Hells yeah.

I have quite an opposing view of Plini. For me, his musicality and songs/compositions are the standout, rather than his technical ability.

Plini isn't trying to be a rock star, so he doesn't behave like one when he performs. He's a musician, so he just performs music. He's exactly the same way in interviews. Very chill and simple.

Yes Plini is quite technical but he also has great musicality. It becomes more apparent the more you listen. Love Plini

I like this one kid with a high slung guitar, he's called BB King.

I respect the point, but my stance is I really admire people for pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with their instrument. I listen to music more than I watch music, so hearing someone like Plini through my headphones is very exciting from a technical standpoint. Trying to figure out how they did that riff/run/solo is the exciting part. I also play my guitar high-ish as it’s a similar position to when I’m sitting down practicing. A lot of people commenting seem to have gotten the wrong end of the argument here, and are instead being oddly aggressive towards the sheer idea of virtuoso musicians.

Stage presence was one of the main things my band used to focus on because our drummer looked so damn bored every performance.

I agree. It’s ok to be technical, but I prefer guitarists who give u emotion

it is just an opinion. i don't agree with jim, because after years of listening to rock and metal, from soft ones to aggressive punch death metal, plini sounds just the way I would like to hear, it is like heaven and I love his music, also polyphia

Plini is a pretty chill guy - if you are expecting a snarl and a low-slung guitar then you are watching the wrong guy. I reject the notion that you need some kind of outlaw attitude to bring emotion into your music. Plini and others in his genre have tons of emotion and musicality in their songs and their technical ability is beyond compare. You may have forgotten guitarists like Steve Howe of Yes who wear the guitar high, have loads of technical ability and plenty of emotion. Another example - John Petrucci. I think how he wears the guitar is relatively unimportant.

Plini is one of the greatest guitarists to ever pick up the instrument, period. And a great composer.

My favorite guitarist was Tom DeLonge from Blink-182 and he sucked. But he had fun and he always made it look like he was having fun. And that always stuck with me and I always made sure that whenever I played guitar, either on stage in front of people or at home by myself, that I was having fun doing it. And it’s why I still play guitar. It’s just fun to do.

You just prefer a performance, rather than the the composition, itself. He's a professional, who doesn't rely on showmanship, in order to create and perform songs. The quality is better, because he's focused on hitting the notes correctly, not jumping around, guitar spins, etc.
This guy just wanted to sound like he had something actually interesting to add. Plini is one of the best guitarists in the world, just because you must be sequestered whilst listening, doesn't mean the rest of us do.

Different strokes for different folks, I saw Plini live the other week and had a blast!

It's not something I enjoy watching but I enjoy listening to it.

Another old rocker here…can’t argue with the talent it takes to play so many ‘notes per second’, it’s art, so I can appreciate it, and dislike it at the same time….and I do. I’m glad it’s there for those that DO enjoy it.

different generation different playing.. the variation of player that makes it interesting

A lot of closed mindedness in the comments for this short and the original video. Just because the guy doesn't bend a single note and then make a face like he's having a stroke doesn't mean he's emotionless.

People could do with actually listening to Plini's music before making judgements.

On the flip side of the coin with the "classic rock, old rocker" crowd is they'll prefer a cool look pose while playing the most boring, unimaginative pentatonic blues scales over and over. But they got that rockin' les Paul hanging at their knees and sloppily playing miss notes on their slightly overdriven tube Marshall. Because Rock on! I swear the older generation of rock refuses to co-exist due to feeling threatened with musical technicality.
