Every Mechanic Shop Said No. Breakdown Update 'Found The Problem'

Van Life road trip has come to a stop in Whitehorse Yukon and Every mechanic shop said No sorry we can not help you for a month. UPDATE.

My name is Chrome i have been living in y cargo van for 6 years now. I started this lifestyle BROKE and IN DEBT and after 11 months of living the van life i cleared my debt and started to put my life back together and build for a better future. I have turned my original van into a badass camper van that is lifted with all the toys. Over the years i went from being broke and stealth camping in the city and sleeping at walmarts... to now, living fulltime in a jacked up van and driving deep off-grid into the backcountry and living life in the dirt. WOW LIFE HAS CHANGED.

I love your channel. I have a Degree in Automotive Technology and Engineering and I was a Master Technician for Toyota Motor Corporation for 20 years. Flywheel is a term used for Manual Transmissions and Flex Plate is a term used for Automatic Transmissions. With an Automatic Transmission you have the rotating weigh of the Torque Converter to smooth the engine cycles out. The Flywheel in a Standard Transmission is what carries that rotating weight to smooth the engine cycles. Flex Plates are a single stamped piece with a Welded on Ring Gear for starter engagement. You may be able to purchase a Heavier Duty Part, however in order to maintain correct Torque Converter Placement they need to be dimensionally identical. Generally Motors use to have a problem breaking the centers out just like yours did. GM stepped up their game and used better metal and the problem was solved. Hopefully the broken Flex Plate doesn't reoccur. When you have time check on getting an aftermarket, upgraded heavy duty version.

Also the vent on the top of your rear axle housing is closed or clogged from the bush dust causing pressure and the leak on your locker pump

It usually starts with a small crack but that’s basically the most common way for the ford flex plates to fail on the Econoline vans, I have replaced 3 this year. There is a heavy duty option available for the 5.4 hopefully that’s what they are shipping you.

Glad you found the part. My only concern is what caused the part failure and is it because your transmission is seized up? The system is designed to have a weakest failure point in case the transmission seizes, it won't destroy your engine. Hopefully it was just a part defect. Continued success chrome!
