Great review. I do agree with some things you mentioned. When I first read thru the rule book i was frustrated. I played a few missions on my own before introducing it to my buddy’s. I normally game with my wife but I knew this wouldn’t be her type of game.
I definitely like it with 2 for the same reasons you’ve mentioned, but I don’t recommend giving a new player controlling all 3 heroes, that would be so overwhelming. Since i knew the game I always play the heroes and teaching new players how to control the villains is much easier. Henchman have less symbols and the villain board only has one main villain.
With my experience, after playing one scenario we always played best of 3 instead of jumping into a new scenario. This allows players to understand the map, terrain and icons for each character. The game itself feels like a puzzle so each game felt different.
You mentioned giving extra rounds to help the heroes, I do the same usually 1 or 2 extra rounds and heroes will still loose. After the 1st game tho, you’ll see a huge difference in strategy and heroes ultimately win. Considering what I went thru to make this an easy teach, friends all thought it was easy to play. Little do they know what I had to go thru to give them that experience haha. cheers 🤓

Thanks a bunch. I have been agonising over this game since it first came out, as I knew that ultimately I would be playing 2 player and it would all come down to whether I could get my wife on board with it. This review is what finally swung it for me and made me pass for good. Nice analysis.
