honestly, it seemed like the mom abandoned the girl. the girl said the mom left to fix the generator and that she usually takes the key, but she didnt that time. the mom also seemed kinda rude to the girl, throwing the crayons away and taking her toy

This game reminds me so much of those eye spy games where you have to progress by finding things on the screen and something about it just makes it so interesting especially taking advantage of that aspect and just adding pure story around it. It's really a nice touch I must say.

I think the mum might have abandoned her. Leaving without the key and no sign of her anywhere. I think maybe, theory time, based on the lighthouse picture writing and the fact there’s no father, maybe the father died to the wolves or something, leaving the mother in despair to raise the child by herself. It’s commonly known that grieving mothers can be neglectful and it’s potentially the cause of her seeming quite rude to her, taking her toy and crayons and such, also not letting her see her grandparents “since she was little”. When the father died maybe? Maybe the fathers parents and the mother didn’t want to see anyone who had anything to do with her lost love? She’d clearly holed them away and didn’t want to face the outside world but she probably finally had enough and snapped and just wanted to either kill herself or just leave the child on her own because it reminds her too much of her dearly departed? Like the grandparents? I’m thinking way too much into it but it’s fun to theorise
