AITA for suggesting to my friend that his children will replace me and my wife?

My wife and I don't have kids, we are friends with my old friend from high-school and his wife, see them here and there. The other day we were going back and forth on the topic of kids and he kinda made it seem like my wife and I were jerks for not replacing ourselves with children.

He has 4 kids, so I was like, "dude, you hooked us up! You had 4 kids so I just want to thank you for making sure the human race is replacing itself properly and to cover me and my wife, really appreciate it!"

I was only half serious but his wife really realllly didn't like it when I said that and she said "we had these babies for us and our family, not for you." I was like "Oh I get it, but as far as human population replacement goes, you guys really did us a solid here, we're officially replaced"

There was a lot of scoffing and the conversation moved onto another topic, but I don't think I was out of line at all. Was I the AH here?

This AITA short is just what you need to get through your day. Most AITA shorts are quick and difficult to understand, but these are just fast enough to get through without falling asleep, yet slow enough to understand. Quick shorts are great, but quick AND understandable shorts are even better!

Replacing is a weird way to put it and to a mother it could seem too much considering OP is referring to her babies but it’s also technically true in a also weird way😅😂

The phrasing, IMO was quite inappropriate, but OP's choice to not have kids does not make them an AH. Just the statement.

I mean I don't think it makes you an asshole but I don't really think it's funny I have 3 kids I def would've moved onto a different topic and dropped that one completely. I would have been very uncomfortable.

that's your duty to continue the human race, don't put that weight on other people. Having children is very life fulfilling.
