Indian vs Harley, Whats your problem?

The question goes out to all: Is there any animosity between riders of Harley Davidson’s or Indian owners? Recently I rode my 2016 Indian Scout to the 115th anniversary of Harley Davidson in Prague, Czech Republic that featured an estimated 35,000 Harley’s. Here is what I experienced.

Please leave respectful comments below and tell me what you have experienced.

Indian rider here. Nothing but love with ALL bikes, HD, Metrics, Sportsbike etc. We may poke fun at eachother but we ALL share the same passion on 2 wheels.

I have been riding since I was 9 years old, 50 now. The BEST bike I have ever owned is my 2018 Jade Metallic Indian Scout. Just fits me like a glove. Traded in a Harley Street Rod for it and have ZERO regrets for doing it. Went to a Demo days event and was hooked. Went this year also and rode all the bikes. Dang those Chieftan Elites are too!! Think Polaris has Indian here to stay!!

There is no wrong motorcycle, just wrong one for you. Ride what makes you happy.

Honestly every Harley and metric rider I've come across has loved my Scout. Never heard anything bad. I don't think there's that much animosity... but if you go by the comments sections of my video, you'd surely think much differently. lol

New rider and I’m going with Indian as my first bike

I recently switched from hd to a Indian ... I did it because owning a Harley had always been my dream but after about 4 years of owning the thing I just realized that although they are beautiful bikes, and I think Harley makes a good bike that the Indian is just more bang for your buck ! I do a lot of miles ... the ride on the Indian is just better it handles better and most of that is because of the mono shock suspension ! There are things that Indian does that Harley doesn’t ! I have received a bunch of welcome gifts from Indian that Harley just doesn’t do ! All my buddies gave me crap for switching but I’ve let a few of my close friends ride my bike and they are shocked ! And come back smiling ! That’s all I’m gonna say !

Harley is heavy for me and I’ve never really wanted one. Could be that I’m just too short but I’ve never been drawn to a Harley.
I ride Japanese bikes mostly. Suzuki vz800 and a couple bobbed out Yammy xj650s.
The Indian is comfortable for me plus I’m also a Native American so “Indian” kinda fits me personally being I’m an Indian.

I own a Harley and ride a Honda and want an Indian. My harley was my grandpas 87 heritage not very reliable but fun. The Honda always cranks and runs, went to a Harley dealership salesman says we need to get you on a real bike I said get whatever you want and the title meet me in the street if you win I’ll buy it if I win I get the Harley at no cost. Salesman’s face went red and he walked away.

I’ve owned a dozen HD’s. One 883 new, all the rest not new. Now I’m on a ‘17 Springfield. Finally a ride that i can take a nap 😴 on. HD’s rattled my cash out of reason. Now i have a couple ‘82 FLT Classics waiting for inheritance & my brand new Indian to go places smoothly

I don't think there is. There are Harley fanboys who don't actually own Harleys who like to talk big online, but real Harley riders seem like nice people.

I ride an Indian Chieftain, I recently went on poker run Out of a H-D shop. Very nice place great bunch of folks. After the ride we sat around listening to the band and I overheard some guys talking about my bike. Two of them said " wow cool looking Indian " two other guys said "No they don't make Indians anymore." They almost convinced the first 2 that it was a Kawasaki Nomad. I finally said " It's an Indian " and explained about the resurrection of Indian. Point I'm making here is a lot of H-D rider's couldn't tell you the difference between an AJS or a ZUNDAP. Haha no big deal but I get a kick out of people CLAIMED KNOWLEDGE . It's all good though.

Went to the indian dealer and they let me demo ride anything in the showroom even after i told them i was not ready to buy a bike, never felt any pressure to buy anything at all, after that i went to a harley dealer and all they did was tell me that there is a reason why indian goes out of business and there is a reason why there are more harleys on the road than indians, they let me demo ride a street glide which honestly a wasnt impressed with it and also wasnt impress with the indian. I ride a yamaha stryker and i felt like the yamaha was a better bike all around, however when im ready to buy a touring bike i will be going to indian just because of the customer experience and because of their humbleness. Harley has a problem now because indian is here to stay this time they are opening dealers everywhere and u start to see them on the road a lot more.

Between me an my dad we own 9 bikes. I love my street glide and wouldn’t pick another bike to ride however when I look at art one of the most beautiful bike I have ever seen and owned is the the Indian Chief. I love the Indians they are works of art. They are heavy turds and push their way through corners but as far as style they got it. I wish Harley would come out with leather bags. There are only two brands in our family, Indian and Harley. They are both awesome bikes. Both have their advantages. But no I don’t think their is any animosity between the bike owners. Harley does a way better job at marketing and making you feel like you are part of something important but if an Indian guy showed up to a Harley ride I would welcome them and just ride. After all that’s what it is really about. If there are guys who make this distinction and think they are different or better because they ride one or the other I would say take a step back and remember why you started riding in the first place!

I bought a new Victory in 99. I loved to argue with my Harley brothers about who's bike was more American! 18 years and 350, 000 miles later, had to get another Victory before they put Indian stickers on them!

I currently own a Harley, its my 3rd, and I liked all 3 of them. However, Harley as a company makes me want to switch to Indian. I travel all over the U.S. and out of several Harley dealers, including where I have made my purchases, I am down to only two I would walk in. Harley Davidson Sport Center in Hermantown MN, and Mother Road Harley in Kingman AZ. All other Harley Dealers have treated me like crap, probably over 15 of them I visited. Indian makes a good bike, every dealer treats you well, and they always have way better financing options. I have used Eaglemark to finance Harleys and they were bad to deal with also. As much as I love Harley bikes, my next bike will be an Indian. With that said, I have never had a problem with anyone over brand and make of bike. I personally don't care what anybody rides and all companies have at least one model of bike I would like to ride.

Indian....
More Horsepower
Superior handling
Superior extras like Satnav etc
More reliable
Better engine
Superior cornering

I've owned two Harleys. Then a buddy lent me his Indian Dark horse for a days riding. I traded my Dyna in a week later for the Scout 1130. If you own a Harley, I dare you to go and do just try out an Indian. I promise you will be shocked at how superior they are!

I loved Harley, I really did. Rode in all weather's and spent four years on two different models. What kept annoying me with Harley was the cost of "add on parts" which you HAVE to add on to make your Harley into an actual Harley, exhaust, Intake, Stage 4 etc etc etc, it all ended up pushing me away.

Indian is good for Harley. Just like how the Ford Mustang upped its game after the Camaro came back out.

I rode my Scout to the Iowa Freedom Rally that is mostly HD and only got curious questions and compliments.

We make em here in Iowa tho

I ride an Indian Springfield and have received nothing but compliments from my Harley friends. That being said, I have great regard for Harley bikes also. If I could afford 2 bikes, then I'd have one of each. It seems like I get more for my buck with the Indian. While both brands are priced very close, the Indian has more standard features that are optional on a Harley. Actually H-D upped their game now that they have American competition. That's good news to people wanting an American brand motorcycle.
