Episode 419 - I love the Ys series which itself is criminally overlooked, so let's take a look at the newest game in the franchise Ys 10 which was recently released in English!

The spelling of hell as "Hel" is most likely from the norse "Helheim", considering the title of the game. I noticed that a lot of the locations (like Skyrim) was named after locations in Norway. "Raufoss" being the most obvious.

Some of my favorite reviews for video games are whenever either Game Sack or Happy Console Gamer review an Y’s game. Bought so many of them after watching your guys videos and haven’t regretted a single one. Especially as a long time Legend of Zelda fan that wasn’t even aware of The Y’s series until I heard about them on YouTube during the Wii era when I was in College. Thank You for showing such a fun series of games.

Ys 1 & 2 on the TG-16 CD still hold a special place for me. They were the first CD based games that I played that really felt like they made good use of the format with cut scenes and extra speech.

First time I played Ys on SNES I couldn't figure out why I wasn't doing any damage to the boss blocking my path. Turns out you can be so low level you do no damage. That was a new thing for me

Well I've been playing Ys since it was on the Master System, even modded the Saturn version of Ys to have the TG16 version's CD audio. This review is certainly most welcome.

I appreciate Falcom focuses more on gameplay than pretty graphics, which increases development costs.

One problem with voice acting nowadays is that certain Japanese companies started hiring amateur voice actors that got popular on social media/Youtube and they think it's super cool to emulate the style and tone of the Japanese dubs. These voice actors often have a social media following too which is part of the hiring equation.

If you wondered why VA in games past 5'ish years started sounding weird, now you know.

Can’t wait to get it, I liked the traversal in 9 a lot, I didn’t love the barriers that made you grind, and the story clicked more for me in 8.

2:27 Minor correction, Karja is naturally better at breaking armor than Adol, and Adol is naturally better at dealing HP damage.

6:53 not me realizing here that Adol is being voiced by Bryce Papenbrook. He has voiced many, MANY games and anime here.
He’s currently the current voice of Silver the Hedgehog and has voiced Adol since 2013’s Memories of Celceta.
