Koenigsegg is Making a “Cheap” Supercar…

What happens when the most EXPENSIVE hypercar brand in the world tries to make an affordable supercar? The Koenigsegg Raw attempts to answer- with a powerful, lightweight chassis packaged in carbon fiber and LEDs. It has 700 horsepower, produced by a 3 cylinder turbocharged motor borrowed from the Koenigsegg Gemera. This small powertrain leaves enough space in the interior for 3 passengers and a high-tech sim-racing setup. The RAW by Koenigsegg was drawn up by design student Esa Mustonen- he took inspiration from sportbikes, wedge supercars, and fighter jets. The cheap supercar is unmistakably Koenigsegg, with its fancy reverse synchro doors and transforming rear diffuser. Will the Koenigsegg Raw ever reach production- and will the final price tag be as cheap and affordable as enthusiasts are hoping?

Not too crazy about the boxy front end. Otherwise, its pretty cool. I imagine the price tag will be north of $500K.

Just one change; Use their 3 cylinder, but bolt their "Quark" tiny electric motor, on to the engine block, to spin the end of the crankshaft. That would allow for as much as 935 horsepower, or as little as 500, and Koenigsegg could offer different power tunings per trim package, with no need to have any variation in powertrain development, packaging, or assembly, for different versions. That layout would, very efficiently, offer the company a high degree of flexibility with the product.

A regular Koenigsegg cost over $2M, so i suspect when its affordable means closes to $500k?

It shows how on top of the game koenigsegg is with engineering. The fact they can create 700 horsepower from a 3 cylinder blows my mind.

Honestly, it's always surprised me that the 3-seater/ceter-cockpit didn't take off after the release of the McLaren F1.
Only a handful of supercars have utilized that configuration.
While we're at it, I'd like to point out that when McLaren re-introduced the 3-seater layout, they did so with the wrong car.
Personally, I would have preferred that the Senna had the driver's seat centrally located rather than the GT
It would have made more sense for a track-focused car than a grand tourer to have a centrally located cockpit

When referring to the cost of a car like a Koenigsegg "a slightly lower price" does NOT in any way mean "cheap"

I've been saying for a bit that they should use their high powered 3-cyl engine and make a lightweight manual sportscar with it.
I was hoping they would go full mass production, even if it meant detuning the engine some.

I would just love if they'd make it a hybrid for the maximum efficiency and also increased performance. It may come in handy for when the Turbo just isn't spinning fast enough just yet from a standstill or between gears to just help it out a little.

I've watched this one so many times. Dreaming this car will be a reality. Thanks again for all your hard work bringing us info on such awesome rides that may be possible own.

It’s not “Hemera”. It’s pronounced “Jemeera”. Like “gem” like a diamond, “ear”, and “uh”

This hyper car speaks to me in a way no other super or hyper car ever has I absolutely love the way it looks and can't wait to see a full road version in flesh as they say, beautiful piece of engineering and I want one....

I think koenigsegg is only a few affordable cars away from being a household name. Their engineers are doing incredible work these days, it's exciting to think they could apply their skills to a much wider market.

I wish this 3cylinder was open source or even just the free valve. Its revolutionary and can single handedly simplify and make cars more efficient across the board for mpg or raw power.

I’m a blue collar worker. My entire life I’ve only admired these cars from afar.
Funny how a person of modest income could probably describe the evolution of a fix -a-flat can design from something that worked to something that wasted half the can…
And I had no idea the amount of R&D that went into the production of cars only meant for “hundreds”.

If the durability of the Freevalve actuating system turns out to be limited it might not matter, since the head can be removed and installed very quickly and easily - no belts or chains to install/reinstall and no valve timing to set, could easily be less than an hour's labour. Could literally be a service item (like cam-belt replacement), just swap in an exchange head.

Gordon Murray kept promising to make an actually affordable driver focused supercar, I suspect that would mean £75-150 at minimum if he kept it about experience and not numbers. So far no sign of him doing so yet, sadly.

Some nice design. Particularly the afterburner inspired defuser. Very interesting engineering going on as well

i love the centre console idea and the futuristic design despite how much it might be criticised i think its cooler than most supercars

Wow, that's unbelievable 😅 when I was a kid. I always thought cars have steering wheels at the center of the vehicle. When I grew up, I was surprised to see left or right side steering wheels on cars.

It still seems like a concept drawing but I feel like they could definitely achieve this and it would be a beautiful car and their car's name would be out on the road more
