Today we’re going to talk about Enneagram type eights. Often referred to as “The Challenger” or “The Protector”, type eights, when healthy can change the world. They are incredible people who advocate for the vulnerable, defend the weak and fight for justice.
So with that in mind, the first mental health tip for Enneagram 8s is to put your guard down - be vulnerable by showing your weaknesses to some trusted friends. Every person on this planet is broken and weak is some area of life. Don’t be afraid to share that vulnerable part of you with some safe people. Regardless of your pain, you’re not alone and you are loved. Putting your guard down will allow you to be truly known by others as you really are. And that’s what we all long for - to be known and loved by others for who we are, not who we want to perceive that we are.
And the second mental health tip is to examine your anger. In “The Road Back To You”, author Ian Cron & Suzanne Stabile said this about Enneagram 8’s, “When you power up and get angry, stop and ask yourself whether you’re trying to hide or deny a vulnerable feeling. What feeling is it? How do you use aggression as a way to hide it or defend against it?”
Perhaps you’re trying to hide or deny feelings of grief, shame, or disappointment. Ask yourself, “Is there something else going on at a deeper level that is masking itself as anger?”
This idea of examining your anger gets back to learning how to be in touch with your emotions. I can’t say it enough - feeling your feelings is so important! But, we’ve got to first learn to pinpoint our emotions. I’ll share a link below to a guide to help you in that pursuit. So, explore your emotions and see if you’re avoiding or suppressing any other emotions that you need to process and work through.
So there you have it, a few mental health tips for Enneagram eights. I hope this video was helpful. If you dig what I’m doing, please hit that subscribe button and bell icon!
