CFMoto Ibex 800T Off Road Test Ride and First Impressions

You probably already knew that the CF Moto Ibex 800 shares an engine with the KTM 790 Adventure, and that CF Moto manufactures both engines at their factories in China. You could be forgiven then if, like me, you assumed that the KTM 790 Adventure and the CFMoto Ibex 800 were very similar motorcycles. I finally got a chance to take an Ibex 800 off road and I'm happy to report that when comparing CF Moto Ibex 800 vs KTM 790 Adventure, the two bikes are very different and are set up for two very different types of adventure motorcycle riding.

I had a blast taking the CFmoto Ibex 800 off road at the Touratech Rally and I came away impressed with its build quality and on-road comfort. It's a decent forest road bike but I wouldn't plan on taking it on anything more hardcore or super technical just because it doesn't have an off road mode and the ABS can't be switched off. My initial CF Moto Ibex 800 review is pretty positive. I think there's a lot of adventure bike here for the right type of rider: one who is more focused on crushing miles on the highway than tackling the toughest off road motorcycle riding.

Sounds like you enjoyed the bike a bunch. I think the CF Moto brand is fairly well proven in the US with their side by side business having been here for years. I am glad to see a budget option to the rest of the brands.

I love my Ibex. Got almost 12k miles on her now. She and I had a little mis-hap at Soggy Bottom this year, I bounced off a tree. Only damage was to the headlight and the black trim piece under the nose. Solid performing machine!

I can tell you I have over 2, 000 miles with 2/3 or so being gravel and minimum maintenance roads, since i live in Minnesota and most of our country roads are gravel. I really enjoy this bike for what it is! Good on road and off road manners. Just really needs a good set of tires, I am running the Dunlop Raids and they work just fine. There are things I would like on it but then it would cost more. Having cruise control, heated seat and grips is a big bonus at this price range.

Love mine! Got trailmax raids on it and does great for our Minnesota minimum maintenance roads! Needs a wind screen extender to remove buffeting. I added a switch to disable ABS. The 2 hour ride to dirt is comfortable and love the ergonomics!

I was just at a demo day for CFMoto. Definitely impressed by their bikes. Best thing to do is get on one before deciding they are janky. The IBEX was a very solid bike and I enjoyed riding all their bikes. Demo days are dope!

I had the opportunity to ride the IBEX 800 last weekend at a demo event. And I got to say. Once life affords me the opportunity to own 2 bikes again. I’m buying the IBEX.

In S. California which is a huge market, CF Moto is in a few dealerships next to Japanese, Italian and Austrian.. so you are going to be able to see features and quality right next to one another.. that is a level of confidence that is cool

Honestly because of the options you can get (luggage and what not that can be rolled into a loan, if you like to finance) with the bike and the seemingly surprising reliability, I’d consider getting one of these for commuting / touring if the price were right.

just fyi: the sussers likely feel stiff due to being set for 75-80kg rider from factory, you will no doubt be in the area of the sussers where they are ramping up their feedback due to your build
