My Week with the 2020 Volvo XC90 T8

I spend a week with the 2020 Volvo XC90 T8 in its top Inscription trim. Being the only luxury 3-row currently on sale in the U.S. with a plug-in hybrid option, the XC90 T8 is an easy choice for anyone looking for above average fuel economy in this segment as long as you're willing to pay the premium for the T8 version. But in addition to that, the XC90 in general is a great vehicle to live with. It has a very smooth and quiet ride (especially in electric mode), a bright and comfortable interior, great infotainment, fantastic stereo and a good amount of room. Favorite SUV in this segment by a mile. I love how Volvo resisted the trap to chase the BMW driving experience that so many other luxury automakers have fallen into. Even car guys can appreciate the supreme comfort that something like this offers. The XC90 is one of those cars that came together so cohesively and brilliantly that you can just tell that the people behind this had such a clear vision of what they wanted to accomplish. It has a beautiful exterior, but in a subtle way that doesn’t shout for your attention. It’s powerful, but not pointlessly sporty or unbearably stiff to deal with on a daily basis. The interior is minimalist in modern, but still warm and inviting with impressive, yet functional and easy to use technology. And most of all, it’s unique and original in a way that stands out from the sea of German and Japanese luxury SUV’s. Definitely deserves every bit of the success it has seen on the market.

It looks like a nice family car. I'm at the age where a Mustang can be my daily driver. If a needed a larger car this might be worth considering.
