Lightning strike leaves behind 15-foot crater in Fort Worth parking lot

The strike caused a huge noise and sent debris at least 50 feet away from where it hit the ground near a Chevron gas station.

The 'power of lightning' didn't leave this crater in the ground, it was the power of confined diesel fumes. The lightning was just the spark that set it off.

I worked at an auto dealership, lightning hit a flagpole near the street and traveled through the parking lot, blowing out asphalt and following an electrical conduit into the building where it took out two computers. I was about 20 feet away when it happened. Amazingly, the same thing happened again a couple of months later.

This is exactly what I would expect to happen when all the ground water under the concrete instantly turns to steam when the lighting bolt strikes.
Concrete is strong but no match for the power of a steam explosion.

I like how everyone thinks it is extraordinary and unbelievable. It's nothing out of the ordinary. This is what lightning does. And it doesn't always strike the highest object, as you can see. It's more attracted to pointy objects that conduct electricity (towers, lightning rods on buildings, tops of trees, etc), but if the easiest path is right on the ground, it will take it.

that wasn't a lighting strike that was the pump exploting. a real lightning strike should be really shiny and light up the hole place
