I Finally Bought My Grail Jacket...Was It Worth It?

The Nikelab ACG 2-in-1 is one of the best-known techwear jackets and included in countless images since it released in 2015. I finally cemented my consoomer status and managed to get hold of one 😎
While its reputation is well-founded and there are a lot of great things about this jacket, never forget that for every cool piece of clothing there are alternatives.

Really appreciate the sincere reflection in this video. I always struggle deciding on what’s a “reasonable” price to spend on clothing. This brings up some great points and I hope you continue to enjoy your grail/future collections!

I'm the same with items for my Transformers collection. I see something I really want, take months pursuing it, finally find one, and... it sits on a display shelf. The chase is often better than the catch.

I can't tell you how refreshing it is to hear someone think a little bit deeper into some of our desires and goals behind fashion. Thank you for this video it was a great one 🙏

So glad you got this for yourself! I think a lot of us can relate to both this grailed-purchase high, and then the low. On the subject of branding and PR, and us subsequently liking it or not, I think it's about intention in the product. I buy some high-end stuff when I find things I like, and it is almost never motivated by functionality like teachwear. But it's like a tap on the cheek, I think, in that if it was meant as a slap, the one providing it hits harder, it's offensive, we're offended, but if it was meant as a caress, same motion, but softer, we like it. It's the thought that counts.

When the smoke clears... it's just a cool jacket.

And that's when you know you need to feel that emotional drive again to start the search after a new grail!

Liking the philosophical approach. The hunt is what keeps you addicted. I remember buying my first couple of grail pieces and being super happy, feeling like a rockstar when wearing them... but at a certain moment it doesn't feel as special anymore. Then you start looking at even more exclusive and/or expensive items. I would personally take these factors in consideration; 1 can I afford it? 2 do I need it? 3 how versatile is it?

I have definitely had similar feelings when I have finally got "grail" items before. It is a complicated feeling, really good video and very honest review!!

Supercool video Antwon! You are really good at guiding us in your thought processes and thus showing us your vulnerable side (up to a point). Thank you for doing that.

Though I have to disagree with the Dume jacket looking better on you. The construction of the Dume has it folding in weird places on your chest and sleeves, and I much prefer the ACG's fit on you.

Last, since we're sharing, I bought my personal grails earlier this year after tracking down a pair in eastern europe. No regrets whatsoever! I paid a fair price, and knowing that the chances of ever finding another pair are practically 0%, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Our grails partly define us, they are a reflection of our passion, and I am very happy to have a physical representation of what moves and motivates me.

I enjoy every video you put out Antwon, but this one… perfection. How to move on from that?! Much like moving on from copping a grail?! Thankfully, you will… we all will.

Seriously enjoyed the philosophy behind purchasing an item long sought after. It’s a reflection we rarely hear spoken and for those of us who both love material items AND have souls, it’s refreshing and comforting to know these are feelings and honest conflicts others have as well!

Cheers, mate- long time watcher, first time commenter! Carry on!

I loved the video and the "philosophical" approach. Its def something we all go through.

I know exactly how you feel mate, getting it at some point was amazing IMO, and letting it go again, heart breaking. But I'm glad for you you got one too, it does remain an icon, no matter what. ❄️

Welcome to the Club!!! I have all four of the "ACG Sleeved" 2-in-1 jackets... Black/Black, Black/Silver, Summit/Black, Summit/Silver
Whenever I wear one I get compliments... There's something ICONIC about these jackets... YOU know what you're wearing even
if others are oblivious... Now with covid still upon us one just needs to get the heather gray reflective balaclava - the one from those
Carlos Serrao videos. Then just add the lupinek flyknit chukkas and then the ACG responder backpack and then the... Stay Safe!!!

A true beauty, the fit is perfect and the flapping layers add the perfect amount of volume. It definitely hails from the golden era of ACG. Not that there aren't good recent pieces though. Glad you grabbed it.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with spending a lot on something you want to have, it's a consumer world after all. Recently I got the Acronym x Air Presto Mid Racer Pink off of GOAT, cause I've wanted those for years and the only thing that was stopping me was they were around 400 euro new. It may not sound that much, but sadly Im in Bulgaria where we don't work with euros, so for me it was 850bgn without shipping on a 1.3k paycheck. Things finally are sorta working out for me, so saved up for 2 months, forked up the grand total of 1.25k bgn (620-630euro) with shipping + imort fees and tbh I don't regret it at all, if anything it actually showed me that sometimes showing some patience can still work out at the end, cause I didn't rush to get them when it would have put me financially in a tight spot.

great video, it was really relatable through and through. when I bought my grail jacket a few months ago, I had pretty similar thoughts and philosophical questions coming up after the purchase. But sometimes it is better to detach oneself from this consoomer mindset and appreciate that in the end it is just a cool jacket, that is what really matters :)

I guess I'm getting older, but I remember seeing this style in clothing around in teh very early 2000's. This 2in1 jackethas a wicked nostalgic feel. Makes me want to go play some Deus Ex. I think it's more interesting than the other jacket you showed, but both are great.

Thats the thing about hype - in the end few things live up to it.
