I tend to forget that about sketching: I try and make a pretty picture, even though I know that it is not its fundamental purpose, and I miss out on being instinctual and getting in the flow. The result is that my sketches are lifeless.

I’m flashing back on my kids’ favourite educational tv shows. How many times did they invite us to identify the shapes in everyday objects? My (way too) grown up brain completely overlooked that connection until this moment. Thank you. No wonder my kids loved to paint and sketch without prompting. They’d been those shapes shapes and colours all along. It takes me so long to appreciate what is already in front of me. Bon vacances, Madame et Monsieur.
